C’est avec un grand enthousiasme qu’environ 180 élèves-officiers du Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean (CMR Saint-Jean) ont passé la fin de semaine du 3 et 4 octobre à la base d’entraînement de Farnham pour participer à un entraînement d’initiation à la campagne. À chaque année, cette compétition amicale entre les escadrons du Collège a pour but de démontrer la détermination des élèves-officiers et de promouvoir la camaraderie. Pour la plupart des nouveaux élèves-officiers, ceci était leur toute première expérience en forêt. Le volet compétition se divisait en quatre activités rigoureuses: la course à obstacles, des exercices de mémorisation, d’observation et de dissimulation. Ces épreuves testaient les capacités physiques, mentales et militaires des élèves-officiers. De plus, ils ont aussi eu la chance de se mesurer à la traverse maritime et la tour de rappel de Farnham.
Après une longue journée bien remplie, les élèves-officiers ont appliqué leurs connaissances en forêt en y installant leur campement pour la nuit. Ceci a été une expérience particulièrement enrichissante pour tous ceux de l’année préparatoire qui ont dormi pour la première fois dans un environnement militaire en plein air. En bout de ligne, c’est l’Escadron Iberville qui a remporté la compétition avec une victoire écrasante dans toutes les épreuves de la fin de semaine. C’est avec un grand sourire et en épelant le mot « d-y-n-a-s-t-i-e » que l’Élève-officier Marc Grenier, l’élof commandant de l’Escadron Iberville, a répondu au Major Michel Archambault, le Directeur des élèves-officiers : « C’est grâce à l’effort que tous ont fourni et au travail d’équipe que nous avons gagné la compétition ». L’Escadron Richelieu est arrivé en deuxième place, suivi de l’Escadron Tracy. Cette activité est l’une des nombreuses activités militaires que le CMR Saint-Jean offre à ses élèves-officiers pour les préparer à leur cours d’entraînement de base à la Garnison Saint-Jean l’été prochain. Cet exercice de fin de semaine à Farnham leur permet de développer leurs habiletés en leadership et en athlétisme, deux des quatre composantes qui constituent les piliers sur lesquels est fondé le curriculum du CMR de Saint-Jean, les deux autres étant la formation scolaire et le bilinguisme.RMC Saint-Jean officer cadet weekend in FarnhamRMC Saint-Jean officer cadet weekend in Farnham
RMCSJ Take Over Farnham

It was with great enthusiasm that approximately 180 officer cadets of the Royal Military College Saint-Jean (RMC Saint Jean) spent their weekend at Farnham on the 3rd and 4th of October to take part in initiation to field training. Each year, the officer cadets of the three squadrons of RMC Saint-Jean show their determination and camaraderie in a friendly competition. For many of the new officer cadets, this was their very first experience in the field. The purpose of the exercise is to introduce them to the concept of field training and to have them participate in confidence-building exercises. The competition was divided into four rigorous activities: the obstacle course and memorizing, observation and dissimulation activities. These challenges tested the physical, mental and military capacities of RMC Saint-Jean’s officer cadets. Moreover, they also had the chance to measure themselves against the maritime crossing and the rappel tower.
After a long but rewarding day, the officer cadets applied their knowledge in the field by setting up their camp for the night. This was an enriching experience, especially for all the new officer cadets who slept for the first time in an outdoor military environment. In the end, Iberville Squadron won the competition with a crushing victory in all the challenges of the weekend. It was with a big smile and by spelling “d-y-n-a-s-t-y” that Officer Cadet Marc Grenier, Iberville Cadet Squadron Leader, answered to Major Michel Archambault, Director of Cadets: “We were able to win this competition thanks to teamwork and everyone’s efforts.” Richelieu Squadron came in second place followed by Tracy Squadron. This exercise is one of several military activities that RMC Saint-Jean offers to its officer cadets to prepare them for their basic training course at Saint-Jean Garrison next summer. The exercise allows them to develop their abilities in leadership and athletics, which represent two of the four components of achievement on which RMC Saint-Jean’s curriculum is based, the two other being academics and bilingualism.
