The following academic awards, prizes and awards were presented at RMC’s 120th Convocation and accompanying Commissioning Ceremony. Academic Awards – Prix académiques

The Governor General’s Gold Medal – awarded to the graduating student who achieves the highest academic standing in a Master’s or Doctoral degree programme. The Barry D. Hunt Memorial Prize – Awarded annually to the best graduate student graduating in War Studies or in History. The prize was established in the memory of the late Dr. Hunt, former Dean of Arts and Chair of the War Studies programme.	Le prix commémorant Barry D Hunt, PhD. – décerné chaque année au meilleur étudiant du deuxième ou troisième cycle qui obtient un diplôme en Études sur la conduite de la guerre ou en histoire. Ce prix a été établi à la mémoire du feu M. Hunt, PhD, ancien doyen des arts et directeur du programme d’Études sur la conduite de la guerre.

The Royal Canadian Naval College Class of 1946 Scholarship – awarded to the graduating Regular Force member of the Naval environment with the highest academic average.	La bourse de la classe de 1946 du Collège royal de la marine du Canada – décernée au finissant l’élément navale de la Force régulière ayant obtenu la meilleure moyenne au volet des études dans un programme de deuxième ou troisième cycle.

The Governor General’s Silver medal – awarded to the student with the highest average in the Fourth Year of study at RMC, on completion of an Honours or Engineering degree programme with First Class Distinction, provided that a four-year programme of study has been completed and an overall average of at least A- has been recorded in Third Year. The Gibson Medal (Graduating Year) – presented to the top graduating student in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. This award is presented in memory of 2569 Major Desmond H. Gibson, ED and 805 Colonel the Honorable Colin W. Gibson, PC, MC, VD.	La médaille Gibson (promotion sortante) – établi à la mémoire du Maj Desmond H. Gibson, ED, numéro de collège 2569, et du Col et honorable Colin W. Gibson, numéro de collège 805, C.P., M.C. et V.D.. The Stuart S. Barton Science Award – Awarded to the student who has maintained the highest overall academic average in the 4th year of an Honours Science program, provided this average is above 80%.  This award was sponsored by Mrs. Ruth Barton in memory of the late Dr. Barton, a distinguished member of the RMC Chemistry Department.  The prize would not be awarded if, in a given year, the above conditions are not met.	Le prix de sciences Stuart S. Barton – est décerné à l’étudiant qui a obtenu la meilleure moyenne générale dans ses études en quatrième année d’un programme de sciences avec spécialisation, cette moyenne devant être supérieure à 80 %.  Ce prix a été parrainé par Mme Ruth Barton à la mémoire de M. Barton, PhD, membre distingué (décédé) du département de chimie du CMR.  Le prix ne sera pas accordé si aucun étudiant de cette promotion rencontre les conditions mentionnés ci-haut.

The Ontario Professional Engineers Foundation Gold Medal For Academic Achievement – awarded each year to the engineering student with the highest academic standing in the final year.	La médaille d’or pour accomplissements académiques The Ontario Professional Engineers Foundation –  décernée tous les ans à l’étudiant de génie qui obtient dans le domaine scolaire les meilleur rendement  en quatrième année.

The Squadron Leader McAlpine Cadet Trust Fund – awarded to the Graduating Cadet in an Air Force cadet classification who obtains the highest academic marks (achievement in academics).	La bourse de fonds fiduciaire des élèves-officiers du commandant d’aviation McAlpine – est décernée à l’élève-officier de quatrième année dans la classification de l’Armée de l’Air qui obtient les meilleures notes dans le domaine scolaire (domaine académique).

The Canadian Forces Military College Academic Awards for graduating Students. A medal is awarded annually in each of Honours Arts, Honours Science, and Engineering to the graduating UTPNCM cadet with Advanced Standing who, having First Class Distinction, stands highest of the graduating UTPNCMs in the course of study, provided an overall average of Second Class Distinction without failures or conditions was maintained in the previous year.	Les prix universitaires du Collège militaire des forces Canadiennes pour finissant. Une médaille est décernée tous les ans dans chacun des programmes avec spécialisation en arts, en sciences et en génie à l’étudiant PFUMR en tant qu’étudiant avancé de dernière année qui obtient la mention très grande distinction et se classe premier de son programme, sous réserve qu’il ait obtenu l’équivalent de la mention grande distinction sans échec ni autres restrictions en troisième année.

The Fort St-Jean Chapter Prize – Awarded to the graduating cadet with the most improved second language profile since entry in the Military College maintaining a superior performance in the other pillars of the Programme.	Le prix du chapitre du Fort St-Jean – est décerné à l’élève-officier de quatrième année ayant le plus progressé dans sa langue seconde depuis son entrée au Collège militaire tout en maintenant une performance supérieure dans les autres piliers du Programme.

The Lieutenant-Colonel Leroy Fraser Grant Memorial Prize – Awarded to the student of any year who, in open competition, submits the best original essay on an international topic other than Canada or the Commonwealth.	Le prix commémoratif Lieutenant-colonel Leroy Fraser Grant – est décerné, à la suite d’un concours ouvert à tous les élèves, à l’auteur du meilleur essai sur un sujet qui ne porte ni sur le Canada, ni sur le Commonwealth.

Departmental Medals – Médailles des départements
A medal is awarded annually in each academic programme to the graduating student standing highest in the programme, provided an overall average of A1 or better has been earned. Recipients must have maintained a minimum overall average of B- without failures or conditions in the previous year of study. The Doreen and John Windsor Award – awarded annually to the student in the final year of study in Honours History or Military and Strategic Studies programs who demonstrated excellence in an area of Canadian or international history.	Le prix Doreen et John Windsor – décerné annuellement à l’étudiant, dans la dernière année d’étude dans les programmes d’histoire avec spécialisation ou d’études militaires et stratégiques, ayant démontré excellence dans un domaine d’histoire canadienne ou internationale.

Canadian Psychological Association Military Psychology Award – awarded annually to the graduating honours psychology student with the highest standing in the programme, provided a minimum of ten RMC 300 and 400 level psychology courses are taken.	Prix de Psychologie Militaire et Leadership de l’Association Canadienne de Psychologie – décerné à chaque année au finissant du programme de spécialisation en psychologie  qui atteint le meilleur rendement  dans le programme, à condition qu’un minimum de 10 cours de psychologie de niveau 300 et 400 du CMR y soient suivis.

The Society of Chemical Industry Award, Canadian Section – awarded to the graduating students who have the highest standing in the final year of the course in each of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, provided that the overall average is at least A- and that the course of study has been completed in, at most, the normal number of years.	Le prix de la société d’industrie chimique, section canadienne –  décerné aux étudiants de la classe finissante qui obtiennent les meilleures notes en génie chimique et en chimie respectivement, à condition que leurs moyennes générales soient d’au moins A- et qu’ils aient fait leur études sans années de reprise.

Leonard Award – awarded annually by the Department of Mechanical Engineering to the Fourth Year project group judged by the faculty to have presented the best project in MEE/GMF471		Le prix A.C. The Chikhani Award – awarded annually to the fourth year project group in electrical and computer engineering deemed to have the best project by the members of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. The prize is awarded in memory of Dr. Aziz Chikhani, PhD, PEng, former Dean of Engineering and Head of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. The winners receive the references required to prepare for the Practice of Professional Engineering exams.	Le prix Chikhani – présenté à chaque année au groupe de projet de quatrième année en génie électrique ou en génie informatique jugé comme ayant livré le meilleur projet par les membres du département de génie électrique et de génie informatique. Le prix est établi à la mémoire de M. Aziz Chikhani, PhD, PEng, ancien Doyen du génie et Chef du département de génie électrique et de génie informatique. Les récipiendaires reçoivent les ouvrages de référence requis pour leur préparation aux examens de pratique professionnelle du génie.

The W.C. Moffatt Aeronautical Engineering Award – awarded to the student who contributed to a positive learning experience for his or her entire class not only through demonstrated academic excellence but also through sound leadership in the classroom and laboratories. The winner must have enhanced his or her intellectual achievements with maturity, creativity and a breadth of learning. The nominee is selected by a secret ballot of the students in the Aeronautical Engineering program.  The nominee is confirmed by the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department faculty to have met the prize criteria.	Le prix de génie aéronautique W.C. Moffatt – décerné à l’étudiant qui a contribué à un environnement propice à l’apprentissage pour sa classe entière, non seulement par son excellence académique mais aussi par son leadership en classe et au laboratoire.  Le récipiendaire doit avoir enchéri ses réussites intellectuelles avec une maturité, une créativité et une diversité d’apprentissage.  Le récipiendaire est choisi par un vote secret des étudiants du programme de génie aéronautique.  Les membres du corps enseignant du département de génie mécanique et de génie aéronautique confirment que le récipiendaire rencontre les critères du prix.

The J.F. Lott Award – This award is given annually by the Department of Civil Engineering to the student group judged to have presented the best Fourth Year design project.  The award honours 06106 John Frederick Lott, twice a graduate from the Department.	Le prix J.F. The Navy League of Canada Prize – awarded to the best Sea Operations cadet (Maritime Surface and Sub-Surface or Maritime Engineering) in the graduating class, based on high standards of proficiency in each of the four pillars of the RMC programme. The Air Cadet League of Canada Award of Merit – awarded in alternate years (odd) to the best Air Operations or Aerospace Controller cadet in the graduating year, based on high standards of proficiency in each of the four pillars of the RMC programme.		Le prix d’excellence de la Ligue des cadets de l’air du Canada – décerné tous les deux ans (année impaire) au meilleur élève-officier de quatrième année des opérations aériennes ou contrôleur aérospatial qui atteint le plus haut niveau de compétence dans chacun des quatre piliers d’études du programme du CMR.

The Commander Arturo Prat Leadership Award – awarded to the graduating naval cadet who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, moral values, performance, and potential for future service in the Profession of Arms. The Chilean Embassy sponsors the award.	Le prix du leadership Capitaine de frégate Arturo Prat – décerné au finissant de la Marine dont les qualités de chef, les valeurs morales, le rendement et le potentiel comme futur membre de la profession des armes sont remarquables. Le prix est octroyé par l’ambassade du Chili.

The UTPNCM Award of Merit – awarded to the graduating UTPNCM cadet attaining the highest standards of proficiency in the four pillars of the RMC programme. The Canadian Forces Engineering Prize – awarded to the best graduating cadet enrolled in the military occupations of Naval Combat Systems Engineering, Marine Systems Engineering, Engineers, Signals, Electrical and  Mechanical Engineering, Construction Engineering, Aerospace Engineer, Communications and Electronics Engineering based on high standards of proficiency in each of the four pillars of the RMC programme.	Le prix de génie des Forces Canadiennes – décerné au meilleur élève-officier de quatrième année des groupes professionnels militaires de génie des systèmes de combat naval, officier de mécanique navale, génie, transmissions, génie électrique et mécanique, génie de construction, génie aérospatial, génie électronique et des communications qui atteint le plus haut niveau de compétence dans chacun des quatre piliers d’études du programme du CMR.

The Military Support Award of Merit – awarded annually to the best cadet in the graduating class from the Logistics, Health Care Administration, Military Police Officer, or other military occupation of the Support Group, based on high standards of proficiency in each of the four pillars of the RMC programme.	Le prix d’excellence de soutien militaire – décerné tous les ans au meilleur élève-officier de quatrième année appartenant à une classification dans la branche de la logistique, Administration des services de santés, Sécurité ou tout autre groupe professionnel militaire du groupe de soutien qui atteint le plus haut niveau de compétence dans chacun des quatre piliers d’études du programme du CMR.

The Canadian Defence Academy Profession of Arms Award for Excellence in Military Professionalism (CDA) – awarded to a Canadian Defence Academy student for demonstrating excellence in military professionalism, leadership and character, and who has consistently displayed the highest values of the Canadian Forces – Integrity, courage, academic achievement, fitness, loyalty, comradeship, and commitment.	La récompense en profession des armes de l’Académie canadienne de la Défense pour l’excellence en professionnalisme militaire (ACD) – décernée à l’étudiant de l’Académie canadienne de la Défense qui a démontré de façon constante, de l’excellence en professionnalisme militaire, leadership, une conduite exceptionnelle et les grandes valeurs des Forces canadiennes, soit l’intégrité, le courage, le succès dans les études, le bon conditionnement physique, la loyauté, la camaraderie et l’engagement.

The Major General John Arthur Stewart Trophy -awarded to the top Military Engineer cadet in his or her graduating year whose occupation classification is Engineer or Construction Engineer.  Sponsored by the Canadian Military Engineer Association, it is based on high standards of proficiency in each of the four pillars of the RMC.	Le trophée major général John Arthur Stewart -décerné au meilleur élève-officier du Génie militaire dans sa dernière année d’étude faisant partie des classifications Génie (GPM 42) ou Génie de construction (GPM 46). Réalisé grâce de l’Association des ingénieurs militaires (AGMC), il est le plus haut niveau de compétence dans chacun des quatre piliers d’études du programme du CMR.

The Royal Canadian Artillery Association Prize – awarded to the best Artillery Cadet in the graduating class, based on high standards of proficiency in each of the four pillars of the RMC programme.	Le prix de l’association de l’Artillerie royale du Canada -décerné au meilleur élève-officier de quatrième année d’artillerie qui atteint le plus haut niveau de compétence dans chacun des quatre piliers d’études du programme du CMR.

The Duncan Sayre MacInnes Memorial Scholarship – awarded to the graduating cadet who is considered the most deserving of those who accept a regular commission in the military occupation of Aerospace Control Officer by reason of academic standing, character, and proficiency in occupational training.	La bourse commémorative Duncan Sayre MacInnes – décernée à l’élève-officier de quatrième année le plus méritant parmi ceux qui acceptent un brevet régulier dans la classification d’officier du contrôle aérospatial, en raison des résultats qu’il a obtenus dans ses études, de son caractère et de sa formation professionnelle.

The Toronto Branch Award in Honour of Sydney Frost -awarded to the graduating ROTP/RETP Cadet who has demonstrated the greatest improvement from 1st year to 4th year in Academics and Fitness, thereby reflecting the value of a military college degree.	Le prix du chapitre de Toronto qui commémore  Sydney Frost – décerné à l’élève-officier (PFOR/PFIR) de quatrième année s’étant le plus amélioré dans les études et le conditionnement physique de la 1ère à la 4e année, ce qui reflète la valeur d’un diplôme du collège militaire.

The Harris-Bigelow Trophy – awarded to the Fourth Year cadet who has displayed the best combination of academic and athletic ability throughout the entire course of study at RMC. This trophy was given for annual competition by the Class of 1932 in memory of their classmates, No. 2039 T.W.E. Harris and No. 2021 J.G. Bigelow.	Le trophée Harris-Bigelow – décerné à l’élève-officier de quatrième année qui, tout au long de ses études, a démontré le plus d’aptitudes tant dans le domaine scolaire que sportif. Ce trophée, remis annuellement, a été offert par les étudiants de la classe de 1932 à la mémoire de leurs compagnons d’études, le Sgt T.W.E. Harris (2039) et le Cpl J.G. Bigelow (2021).

The Toronto Branch RMC Club Prize – awarded to the Fourth Year ROTP/RETP cadet who obtains the highest combined marks in Drill and Physical Education during the entire course of study at RMC.	Le prix du Club du RMC, Direction de Toronto – décerné à l’élève-officier (PFOR/PFIR) de quatrième année qui, tout au long de son séjour, a obtenu la moyenne la plus élevée en exercice militaire et en éducation physique.
Oreoluwa Esther Oyetoran
The Panet Cup – awarded to the graduating cadet who achieves the highest average score in all four years in the Spring RMC Physical Fitness Test.	La coupe Panet – décernée à l’élève-officier de quatrième année qui, chaque année de ses études, a obtenu la moyenne la plus élevée au test d’aptitude physique du CMR au printemps.

Avis UTPNCM Honour Shield is presented annually to the UTPNCM graduate who has contributed most to the positive development of the UTPNCM squadron during the entire time at RMC, as determined by a secret ballot of the members of the UTPNCM squadron	L’écu d’honneur du PFUMR : Promotion de 1978 – Walter S. Avis      est décerné tous les ans au diplômé du PFUMR qui a contribué le plus à l’épanouissement de l’escadron du PFUMR, pendant toute la durée de son séjour au CMR.  Le lauréat est choisi par vote secret des membres de l’escadron du PFUMR.

The Leinster Shield – awarded to the ROTP/RETP squadron amassing the most points in the Commandant’s Competition, with events involving military, athletic and academic prowess. After each event, the squadron leading in the competition flies its pennant from a designated flagstaff and takes the right-of-the-line position on parade. At year’s end, the winning squadron will take the right-of-the-line on the Commissioning Parade. The position of right-of-the-line is traditionally a place of honour, as this was the unit that lead an Army into battle. The Leinster Shield was originally inaugurated in 1892 by the 1st Battalion, Prince of Wales Leinster Regiment (Royal Canadians) for their inter-company challenge shield. The shield came to RMC in 1922 when the Leinster Plate was entrusted to Canada on the disbanding of the regiment. The Class of 1933 refurbished the Shield for use in the Commandant’s Competition.	L’écu Leinster – décerné à l’escadron du PFOR/PFIR qui a accumulé le plus de points lors de la compétition du commandant. Cette compétition comprend des épreuves militaires, sportives et universitaires. Après chaque activité, l’escadron en tête hisse son fanion à une hampe désignée et ses membres défilent dans la colonne de droite lors du rassemblement. À la fin de l’année, les membres de l’escadron vainqueur défilent dans la colonne de droite au cours de la cérémonie de la remise des diplômes. Cette colonne est traditionnellement une place d’honneur puisqu’elle était réservée à l’unité qui menait l’armée dans la bataille. L’écu Leinster a été créé en 1892 par le 1er bataillon, Prince of Wales Leinster Regiment (Royal Canadians), pour sa compétition inter-compagnies. L’écu a été remis au CMR en 1922 lorsque la “Leinster Plate” fut confiée au Canada après le démembrement du régiment. La promotion de 1933 a remis à neuf l’écu choisi comme prix pour la compétition du commandant.
3 Squadron – Escadron 3 Pontiac
The J. Douglas Young Sword of Excellence – awarded in conjunction with the Leinster Shield on Graduation Parade to the Cadet Squadron Leader (CSL) of the Squadron winning the Commandant’s Competition. The sword will be carried by the CSL of the Squadron until the next graduation parade. The fall and winter term CSL of the winning squadron will receive a commemorative plaque for personal retention. The College Number of the CSLs will be engraved on the scabbard to permit a continuing record. The J.Douglas Young Sword of Excellence was donated by the Class of 1933 in memory of their classmate #2360 John Douglas Young, who was killed in action on D-Day, 6 June 1944.	L’épée d’excellence J. Douglas Young – attribuée avec l’écu Leinster, lors de la remise des diplômes, à l’élève-officier commandant d’escadron (COMO) vainqueur de la compétition du commandant. Cet élof portera l’épée jusqu’à la collation des grades de l’année suivante. Les deux COMO (des semestres d’automne et d’hiver) vainqueurs recevront une plaque qu’ils pourront garder. Les numéros de collège des COMOs seront gravés sur le fourreau à titre commémoratif. L’épée d’excellence J. Douglas Young a été donnée par la promotion de 1933 à la mémoire de leur camarade de classe John Douglas Young (matricule 2360), tué au combat le jour J, le 6 juin 1944.
