Thanks to the support of the Class of 1971 Danny McLeod Athletics Fund, Officer Cadet Abhiraj Sarin was able to participate in the Canada Cup International Judo Tournament from 16-17 November in Montreal.
The Canada Cup is an International Judo championship where athletes from all around the world come to compete. Last year athletes from America, England, and South Africa came to compete. This is one of the highest level tournaments in Canada for Judo. By competing in this tournament, athletes brown belt or higher, have the opportunity to obtain a Canadian ranking as well as an international ranking in Judo.
This experience provided RMC Judo with an opportunity to gain a Canadian and international Judo ranking. It gave RMC Judo recognition in the world of Judo and OCdt Sarin an international profile. To participate in this high-level tournament each athlete required an IJF approved gi. The support from the Class of 1971 also included the purchase of this specialized equipment.
I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for your support in facilitating in my growth and experience at the Canada Cup International Judo Tournament. Being able to compete on an international level for the very first time is the best memory I have had during my time at the college.
Competing at this level has always been a dream of mine, and your contribution and support has turned that dream into a reality. The opportunity to represent RMC Judo Club in one of the hardest tournaments in Canada is a privilege. As a fellow judoka, I extend my warmest congratulations to Ocdt Sarin for his achievements in the Canada Cup tournament. Judo is a very demanding sport, nowhere more so than in competitions. Achieving a black belt is a remarkable accomplishment which very few people can ever hope to attain. It requires years of dedicated training and practice, and provides an excellent foundation for a career of military service.
I wish Ocdt Sarin all the best in his continued study of judo and his future military career.
