RMC Foundation Appoints Executive Vice-President
The RMC Foundation is pleased to announce that LCol Rod McDonald has accepted the position of Executive Vice-President of the Foundation effective December 1, 2010.
Rod brings a wealth of College experience to his new role. With seven years of service at the Royal Military College of Canada, first as Deputy Director of Cadets and more recently as Registrar, Rod will be well positioned to enhance the critical role of liaising with the leadership of both Colleges to identify their priority needs and ensure that donor support of these institutions has its greatest impact.
We know that Rod is excited to continue serving the Colleges and Cadets in this next stage of his career. Please join us in welcoming him to his new position with the RMC Foundation.

LCol McDonald was born in Toronto in 1954, the fifth of six children. He completed his primary school there and then moved to London, Ontario where he completed secondary school.
LCol McDonald joined the CF in 1974 under the OCTP program. After basic officer training in Chilliwack B.C. he took pilot training, earning his wings in the summer of 1975. He commenced his flying career on the Kiowa helicopter and served in various positions at 408, 403 and 444 Tactical Helicopter Squadrons, including positions as Flight Commander and Deputy Commanding Officer. In 1996 he took command of 408 Tac Hel Sqn.
LCol McDonald filled various staff positions such as EA to the Comd 10TAG, EA to the DComd of Air Command and SSO Re-Engineering at 1 Wing HQ. He completed Staff School, Land Forces Staff College, Canadian Forces Staff College as well as the Joint Services Command and Staff College in the UK.
In 1998, after an operational deployment to Saudi Arabia on Op Southern Watch as the Canadian Forces Liaison Officer, LCol McDonald’s career turned to professional education. He served on the staff of the United Kingdom Joint Services Command and Staff College in Bracknell, and then Shrivenham as both Directing Staff and Staff Curriculum Writer. During this time he completed his Masters Degree in Defence Studies from King’s College, University of London. Upon return to Canada in 2001 LCol McDonald was posted to the Canadian Forces Staff College where he was Director of War Studies and the Director of Curriculum Support.
LCol McDonald’s first direct involvement with the development of Officer Cadets was on the staff of the Canadian Forces Officer Candidate School in Chilliwack B.C. from 1985 to 1989.
In 2003 LCol McDonald moved to Kingston where he took the position of Deputy Director of Cadets at the Royal Military College of Canada. Four years later, LCol McDonald assumed his current position as the Registrar of RMC in 2007.
LCol McDonald has two daughters, Candice and Rebecca and is the loving spouse of Micheline Primeau and step-father to Renée and Aidan.
NOMINATION D’UN VICE PRÉSIDENT EXÉCUTIF À LA FONDATION CMR
La Fondation CMR est heureuse d’annoncer que le lieutenant colonel Rod McDonald a accepté d’occuper en son sein le poste de vice président exécutif à compter du 1er décembre 2010.
Le lieutenant colonel McDonald possède une solide expérience des CMR. Il cumule en effet, depuis sept ans, les fonctions de directeur adjoint des élèves officiers et de registraire au sein du Collège militaire royal du Canada. Le lieutenant colonel McDonald sera donc à même d’améliorer les relations avec la direction des CMR afin de cerner les besoins prioritaires de ces derniers et de veiller à optimiser les retombées du soutien des donateurs à leur endroit.

Le lieutenant colonel McDonald est né à Toronto en 1954. Il est le cinquième de six enfants. Après ses études primaires dans cette ville, il a fait ses études secondaires à London, en Ontario.
Le lieutenant colonel McDonald est devenu membre des Forces canadiennes en 1974, dans le cadre du Programme de formation des aspirants officiers. Après une formation d’officier de base, à Chilliwack, en Colombie Britannique, il a suivi une formation de pilote, décrochant son brevet à l’été 1975. Il a commencé sa carrière de pilote sur l’hélicoptère Kiowa et occupé divers postes au sein des 408e, 403e et 444e escadrons tactiques d’hélicoptères, dont ceux de commandant d’escadrille et de commandant adjoint. En 1996, il a pris la direction du 408e Escadron tactique d’hélicoptères.
Le lieutenant colonel McDonald a occupé divers autres postes, dont ceux d’adjoint exécutif auprès du commandant du 10e Groupe aérien tactique, d’adjoint exécutif auprès du commandant adjoint du Commandement aérien, et d’officier supérieur d’état major, Réingénierie, au sein du quartier général de la 1re Escadre. Il est diplômé de l’École d’état major, du Collège d’état major des Forces terrestres canadiennes et du Collège d’état major des Forces canadiennes, de même que du Joint Services Command and Staff College du Royaume Uni.
En 1998, après un déploiement opérationnel en Arabie Saoudite dans le cadre de l’opération Southern Watch à titre d’officier de liaison des Forces canadiennes, le lieutenant colonel McDonald s’est tourné vers la formation professionnelle. Il a joint les rangs de l’effectif du Joint Services Command and Staff College de Bracknell, au Royaume Uni, puis au collège de Shrivenham, où il a occupé les postes d’instructeur et de rédacteur des programmes d’études. Pendant ce temps, il a décroché une maîtrise en études de la défense du King’s College de l’Université de Londres. À son retour au Canada, en 2001, le lieutenant colonel McDonald a été affecté au Collège d’état major des Forces canadiennes à titre de directeur des études sur la guerre et de directeur du soutien des programmes d’études.
La première participation directe du lieutenant colonel McDonald à la formation des élèves officiers remonte à la période 1985 1989, alors qu’il était membre du personnel de l’École des aspirants officiers des Forces canadiennes à Chilliwack, en Colombie Britannique.
En 2003, le lieutenant-colonel est devenu directeur adjoint des élèves-officiers au Collège militaire royal du Canada, à Kingston. Quatre ans plus tard, en 2007, il accédait à son poste actuel de registraire du CMR.
Le lieutenant colonel McDonald a deux filles, Candice et Rebecca. Il est marié à Micheline Primeau, elle-même mère de deux enfants, Renée et Adan.
