2012 Graduation Parade

On a sunny and warm Friday of May, the Cadets hurried early in the morning to get ready for the upcoming parade. From the Grad guard to the Ushers, from the academic delegation to the officers and the families invited; everybody walked around the campus with a precise objective in mind. They all had a role to fulfill to commemorate the commissioning of more than 200 young gentleman and lady cadets from RMCC.
On the dias, as the reviewing officer is the chief of defence staff, General Walt Natynczyk. We were also honoured to have as guests the Chief of Maritime Staff, Vice-Admiral Maddison, the Chief of Land staff Lieutentant General Devlin, the assistant Chief of Air Staff Major-General Blondin, and the Commandant of RMC, Brigadier-General Tremblay.
The parade, on the 18th of May, allowed families, friends, members of the CF, professors and many others to recognize the success of the graduating class standing before them. From the day they entered this fine institution until that moment, long anticipated, when they would leave RMCC to enter in the “real world”, each 4th year overachieved themselves. They improved and excelled not only academically, bilingually, and physically, but strived to be the best leader they possibly could. Then, the parade marked the time when they were ready to exercise their leadership and learn from their mistakes as well as from the experience of others.
A feu de joie was presented to the eager 2012 class. The parade, thanks to the great weather and the numerous families and friends attending, was a truthful success.

PO 1ST CLASS TONY POIRIER & MR. STEPHANE ROBERT – MARCH OFF WITH THE CLASS OF 2012
A long held tradition at the Royal Military College of Canada is that the graduating class chooses two individuals as honurary graduates.
This year the Class of 2012 made two highly popular choices when they chose a member of the military staff, PO1 Tony Poirier and a Personnel Support Program (Athletic Department) staff member – Stephane Robert.
Honourary grads are people who hold a special place in the hearts of the departing class.

These two gentlemen received a certificate from the graduating class and earned the privilege to “march off” the square all the way and through the Memorial Arch. (At press time we were unable to come up with a suitable photo of them “marching off” – we hope to locate a good one and insert it early in the week.)
They maintained the pace and cadence and looked right at home with their beaming smiles as they worked their way to the Arch through a throng of happy parents and friends of the graduating cadets.
Congratulations, Tony and Stephane you certainly made your positive imprints with the Class of 2012 and many more cadets and staff.

March to the Arch & Talking with Families

The Class of 2012 marched under the Memorial Arch – as a Class – for the final time Friday afternoon 18 May.
This chapter of two days of celebrations was their final formal military event in scarlets. Thursday saw them receive their university degrees during convocation exercises while moments earlier they had marched off the parade square after they received their commissions as officers in the Canadian Forces.

Suite à la parade de remise des brevets d’officier du 18 mai dernier, les membres de la cohorte finissante défilaient sous l’Arche, symbolisant ainsi leur sortie du CMR et leurs premiers pas en tant qu’officiers dans les Forces canadiennes.
Bien que certaines familles aient déjà assisté à des défilés militaires auparavant, beaucoup d’entre elles mentionnèrent l’impression de grandeur qui se dégageait des événements entourant la graduation des Élèves-officiers. La parade de remise des brevets ainsi que le défilé sous l’Arche ne laissèrent pas les familles et les amis indifférents.
Les proches de m0961 2Lt Lemon s’exclamaient devant l’esthétisme de la parade précédente. Bien que ce ne soit pas pour eux leur premier défilé militaire, jamais ils n’avaient assisté à une graduation. Très certainement ils furent impressionné devant les démonstrations de discipline et d’ordre dont firent preuve la cohorte de 2012 ainsi que les autres membres de l’Escadre sur parade.
La mère de 25842 Élof Ratelle s’extasiait devant la scène émouvante qui se déroulait près de l’Arche. Elle mentionnait comment un sentiment de devoir accompli et de liberté se dégageait des événements, tout en se remarquant dans les yeux fiers des nouveaux officiers.
Évidemment, la perspective des spectateurs ne sera pas la même s’ils sont témoins d’une parade semblable alors qu’aucun de leurs proches ne se font accorder de brevet d’officier. C’est le cas, notamment, de la sœur de 25030 2Lt Brodeur, qui avouait que bien qu’elle ait assisté à la parade lors des années précédentes, elle était beaucoup plus attentive à ce qui se déroulait cette fois-ci.
Finalement, les proches de 25630 Élof Gadoury s’enthousiasmaient devant la beauté de la vue d’ensemble : les Élofs défilant au pas cadencé et exécutant les mouvements d’exercice élémentaire à l’unisson. Sans toutefois laisser de côté l’allure de l’uniforme arboré par tous : le rouge et l’or favorisent sans aucun doute la prestance qui émane des parades telles que celle-ci.
Somme toute, un défilé de l’envergure de celui qui se tint à Kingston le vendredi 18 mai dernier en avant-midi laisse bien peu de gens indifférents, statuant une fois de plus le degré avec lequel l’Escadre des Élofs du RMC est à la hauteur de sa réputation.

Farewell from the Cadet Wing!
“On behalf of the rest of the Cadet Wing, I would like to congratulate the Class of 2012 one last time on your graduation and commissioning. Over the past year, you have been our leaders, role models and friends and you will be mised. I wish you all the best of luck at your new units, and hope your lives after RMC are everything we all look forward to. You have left some big shoes for us to fill, but I know the Class of 2013 is up to the challenge. See you in 362 days!
Au nom de l’escadre des élèves officiers, je tiens à féliciter, encore une fois, la classe de 2012 pour leur obtention de leur diplôme ainsi que de leur brevet d’officier. Au cours de cette dernière année, vous avez été nos dirigeants, nos rôles modèles, nos amis et nous vous manquerons tous. Je vous souhaite la meilleure des chances à vos nouvelles unités, et j’espère que vos vies suite à votre départ du CMR soient ce à quoi nous rêvons tous. Vous nous avez laissé de grandes chaussures à remplir, mais je sais que la classe de 2013 est prête à relever le défi. Au plaisir de tous vous revoir dans 362 jours!”
