7808 Dave Rooke Class of 1968, entered Royal Roads in 1964 and left in ’66. He and his wife Marie now have another “Roadent” in the family, as their daughter, Lara convocated in a Masters of Interdisciplinary Studies program at Royal Roads in early November.
It was a treat for Marie and Dave to get back out to Royal Roads for the occasion.

Little known fact: Colonel Dave Rooke was the Canadian Contingent Commander with the Multinational Force of Observers (MFO) in 1991-92. The Canadians composed of all about 30 military personnel. They put a Lob-ball team together and competed against the Americans, Colombians, New Zealanders just to name three.
Colonel Rooke was the pitcher of the team and led the Canadians into the finals against the Americans and lo and behold the Canadians squeaked out a 9-8 victory. Also, a member of the team playing first base was 8066 Don Peterson (Class of ’69).

Le professeur honoré par la Universidad de San Martin de Porres, au Pérou
La Faculté d’ingénierie et d’architecture de la Universidad de San Martin de Porres, à Lima, au Pérou, a rendu hommage au professeur du Département de génie logiciel Claude Y. Laporte en le nommant docteur honoris causa.
Le professeur Laporte devient ainsi le premier professeur de l’ÉTS à se voir octroyer un doctorat honorifique.
Cette distinction visait à reconnaître le travail du professeur et son engagement tant en enseignement qu’en recherche, ainsi que son apport important dans le développement des normes internationales en ingénierie de logiciels conçues pour les très petites organisations (TPO).
Au Pérou, près de 95% des entreprises comptent neuf employés ou moins. Aussi, ce pays en émergence sur la scène économique mondiale compte sur son dynamisme en la matière pour se positionner tant sur le plan national qu’international. Bientôt des TPO péruviennes recevront d’ailleurs les premiers certificats de conformité à la norme ISO/IEC 29110.
Claude Y. Laporte, éditeur de normes et de guides en ingénierie de logiciels et de systèmes pour les TPO, collabore activement avec l’Universidad San Martin de Porres en matière d’enseignement, de diffusion et de mise en œuvre des normes ISO/IEC 29110 pour les TPO.
Son doctorat honorifique lui a été remis le 16 octobre à l’université même dans le cadre du congrès Vision 2013, sous l’égide de l’IEEE, devant les 1500 participants présents.
Durant son séjour à Lima, le professeur Laporte a aussi présenté une conférence au cinquième congrès hispano-américain organisé par l’Universidad Politecnica de Valancia et l’Universidad de San Martin de Porres sur la gestion de la dimension humaine des changements technologiques, ainsi que deux conférences destinées aux professeurs, aux étudiants et à des invités de l’Universidad de San Martin de Porres.

Surprise! Ex Cadets from the Class of ’13 Drop by to See Their College Mom
Members of the Class of ’13, enabled by RMC Graduates Josee Belcourt, Brad Spencer and the Admiral’s Flag 
Lt(N), Alan Wilson, dropped by to surprise the former “College Mom” with brunch at the Admiral’s residence Sunday, 1 Dec.
A two year tradition during the Bill and Brenda Truelove stay at RMCC (as Commandant) were regular Sunday brunches for Officer / Naval Cadets at the residence of the Commandant.
Fully equipped; the ex-cadets rolled in with food in hand, took over the kitchen and put Brenda and the former RMCC commandant to work with the skillets and pans.
The result was a great meal, good company and lots of fun reminiscing about the College days. What a wonderful start to the Holiday season and warm reminder of the incredible two years we enjoyed at RMC!
Tomorrow (Monday 2 Dec) most of these College Mom’s ‘Kids’ are off to sea to continue their training – best wishes to them ‘fair winds and following seas’ – and calmer weather then we’re experiencing today from the Admiral.
