Several new commanding officer, regimental sergeant major and chief warrant officer appointments were recently heralded within the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).
LGen Jocelyn Paul, Commander of the Canadian Army, made the announcements.
“I offer my heartfelt congratulations and sincerest best wishes to those taking on new appointments and new responsibilities,” stated the Commander in CANFORGEN 077/24.
The appointments took place in 2023 or will occur in 2024.
2023 Appointments
According to the CANFORGEN, the following Chief Warrant Officers (CWO) were previously appointed to a post-tactical leadership team in 2023:
- CWO J.C.P Chevalier was appointed Canadian Army, Ares CWO
- CWO C.A. O’Donnell was appointed 2 Canadian Division, Division DEP CWO
The following CWO were previously appointed to a post-tactical leadership team entry in 2023 as sergeant majors (SM):
- CWO J.S. Newell was appointed 33 CBG, SM
- CWO Y.M. Drolet was appointed 3 CDSG SM
- CWO R.A. Englehart was appointed CMTC SM
2024 Appointments
LGen. Paul announced the following members as commanding officer (CO) in 2024:
- LCol. P.J.R.L. Gosselin was appointed Commandant of Tactics School
- LCol. N.A. McPhederan was appointed Commanding Officer Canadian Army Intelligence (CA INT) Regiment
- LCol. T.A. Hanes was appointed Commanding Officer 1 Canadian Ranger Patrol Group (CRPG)
- LCol. H.A. Thomas was appointed Commanding Officer Canadian Army Headquarters
- Maj. M.J. Pratt was appointed Commanding Officer Canadian Army Trials and Evaluation Unit (CATEAU)
The following were appointed to Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) appointments in 2024:
- MWO S. Normand (on promotion) was appointed RSM of 1 RCHA
- CWO L.R. McGlynn was appointed RSM of 1 RCR
- CWO D. Bonhomme was appointed RSM of 2 R22ER
- CWO C.A. Harik was appointed RSM of 3 Canadian Division TC
- CWO D.C. Radbourne was appointed RSM Of 2 CMBG HQ and SIGS
- CWO P.Vigneault was appointed RSM of 5 CMBG HQ and SIGS
- CWO S.D.J. Eddy was appointed RSM of 1 SVC BN
- CWO E.J.F. Jobin was appointed RSM of 5 SVC BN
- MWO S. Caillie (on promotion) was appointed RSM of 3 CDSB Tech SVCS
- MWO K.G. Mercer (on promotion) was appointed RSM of 5 CDSB OPS SVCS
- MWO G.K. Denton was appointed SSM of 5 CDSB SIGS SVCS
- MWO J.R.R. Crevier (on promotion) was appointed RSM of 5 CDSB PERS SVCS
- MWO K.L. McKeough (on promotion) was appointed RSM Of RCEME School (Corps of Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers)
- CWO J.G.G. St-Laurent was appointed RSM of CFSME (Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering)
The following CWO are appointed to a post-tactical leadership team master in 2024:
- CWO J.P. Gagne was appointed SM of Canadian Army Doctrine and Training Centre (CADTC)
- CWO R.J. Clarke was appointed SM of 3 Canadian Division
- CWO M.Grondin was appointed SM of 5 Canadian Division
The following CWO are appointed to a post-tactical leadership team in 2024:
- CWO R.P.M. Talach was appointed CWO of DIR Canadian Rangers
- CWO M.H. Coit was appointed Division DEP CWO for 4 Canadian Division
- CWO J.A.T. Heffernan was appointed DIV DEP CWO of 5 Canadian Division

The Lieutenant General ended the CANFORGEN noting all CO and RSM appointments “must attend the mandatory unit command team courses at CACSC in Kingston date TBD. Any exceptions must be approved by the DComd CA through CA Talent Management Directorate.”
