After a rigorous and transparent selection process, CWO F.G.J. Lavoie has been named the third Chief Professional Conduct and Culture (CPCC) Command Chief Warrant Officer (CCWO).
The announcement was made this spring by the current Chief Professional Conduct and Culture LGen. Jennie Carignan.
“I extend my sincere congratulations to CWO F.G.J. Lavoie on his upcoming appointment. Effective at APS 2024. As my senior non-commissioned advisor on matters related to the CAF culture and our readiness to fight, I anticipate that you will embody the ethos and values of the CAF, lead by example, and demonstrate the high level of trust that our members rightfully deserve,” stated LGen. Carignan in the announcement released in CANFORGEN 062/24.
Carignan also thanked the outgoing CCWO, CPO1 Pascal Harel, for his “lasting contributions” to CPCC. Harel is set to be the 22nd Command Chief Petty Officer (CCPO) for the Royal Canadian Navy this (2024) active posting season (APS).
Lavoie enters this new role after serving as the Group Chief Warrant Officer of the Chief Information Officer Group.
A storied military career
CWO Lavoie has served within the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) since 1996, when he enrolled as a Lineman. He completed his Basic training in St-Jean, Quebec, and at the Canadian Forces School of Communication and Electronics (CFSCE) in Kingston.
After training, he joined the Headquarters and Signals Squadron in Valcartier, QC.
After hard work and promotions up the ladder, CWO Lavoie was promoted to Warrant Officer in July 2010 and posted to the Canadian Forces Joint Signal Regiment (CFJSR) as Troop WO/Project Coordinator within 1 Line Squadron, according to his official biography.
In 2013, he was promoted to Master Warrant Officer and posted to 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group Headquarters and Signal Squadron as the Line Construction Superintendent.
He was promoted to his current tank in June 2017 and appointed as the Regimental Sergeant Major of the CFJSR.
According to his official biography, CWO Lavoie has completed several operational and domestic deployments. Specifically, he has served on three tours of Bosnia and one in Afghanistan. Domestically, he was deployed to assist with the Ice Storm in Quebec.
His deployments are not the only accomplishments under his belt. He has won the prestigious Petawawa Ironman on two occasions and has been a Member of the Order of Military Merit since October 2010.
Role in CPCC
As the senior-most non-commissioned member within the leadership of the CPCC, CWO Lavoie will have a critical role in shaping the culture of the CAF as the CPCC is tasked with the vital role of initiating a culture change within the military on a broad spectrum of topics.
CWO Lavoie comes into this new role with the perspective of being married to a serving member. The couple share two children.
