RMC Men’s Volleyball Beats Trent U in Home Opener

With a four set victory over the Trent Excalibur in their home-opener, the Paladins move to 3-1 on the season – their strongest start since moving up to the OUA from the OCAA in 2004.  On Sunday, RMC and Trent went point-for-point throughout the match, with tight final set scores: 30-28, 27-29, 25-21, 26-24.

Michael Rowsell led a balanced Paladins attack from the outside, slamming down 10 kills in the victory, while Adam Reid and Derek Haines chipped in from the middle with six kills apiece.

RMC Women’s Volleyball Pushes Trent U to 5th Set

The Paladins nearly earned their first win of the season on Sunday afternoon in their first game at home, but eventually lost in five sets to the Trent Excalibur: 25-11, 22-25, 25-14, 13-25, 15-12.  After trading points throughout the fifth set, Trent called a late timeout with the score tied 12-12, and proceeded to close out the match.  Considering Trent won 3-0 in Friday night’s matchup in Peterborough, Sunday’s performance from RMC was much improved just two days later.

Emma Titley and Taryn Bender put up strong offensive numbers for the Paladins, thanks to 30 assists from Emilie L’Abbé. Bender finished the match with 13 kills, while Titley had 10.

A Win and a Loss for RMC Men’s Hockey This Weekend

The Ridgebacks exacted their revenge for Friday’s 2-0 RMC win, beating the Paladins 7-3 on Saturday night in Oshawa.  The story in Saturday night’s game started before the puck dropped, as Michael Waugh was a last-minute addition to the lineup after the Paladins team captain, Liam Murray, was prevented from playing due to a skate issue.

RMC seemed to miss Murray’s presence on the blue in the first period, as the Ridgebacks exited the opening frame with a 2-0 lead.  By the midway point of the second period, Ontario Tech’s captain Jack Patterson had completed a hat trick to put his team ahead 5-0.

After being outshot early in the game, the Paladins had a stretch through the middle of the second period in which they led the shot count 14-7. The mounting pressure eventually paid off for RMC, when a centering pass from Joel Holtrop found an open Dean Kiriacou, who put the Paladins on the board.
