9901 Don “Brode” Brodeur at the BC Masters Track & Field Championships
The BC Masters Track & Field Championships were held 22 & 23 August 2021 in Surrey, BC. 9901 Don “Brode” Brodeur, CD (CMR 72/RMC 74) made Personal Bests in the Shotput and Hammer and earned Silver in both those events. Brode walked away with the Gold in Discus beating his nearest opponent by 4 metres.
Don has comopeted in Track Events events since High School speciallizing in the throwing events. This may have explained his prowess as an RMC Football athlete. Brode competed for many years in BC Masters alongside his father Squadron Leader (RCAF Ret’d) Philip Brodeur until Phil’s passing in 2013.
This year Don chose not to compete in the Javelin but 2022 may see him on the field in four events. There are records still to be made or broken.

Don was not alone at the BC Masters. I too competed, altho there were only 3 competitors in my 80-84 age group in the throwing events. Notwithstanding I gained one gold, four silvers, and a bronze. Gotta find more active ancients!

Class of 1965 Reunion by the Ottawa river (Only for the Fully Doubled Vac’d!)

After a pause due to the flooding along the Ottawa river where they live and then the Covid pandemic, on 10 August 2021, Jim and Gail Carruthers once again felt the time was right to invite 1965 classmates and their spouses/partners from the Ottawa area and nearby to a BBQ luncheon at their home on Constance Bay.
The day dawned sunny and hot, with a welcome cooling on-shore breeze around noon. After a long period of Covid isolation which saw the cancellation of the Class Reunions scheduled for 2020 as well as local periodic get-togethers, all seemed more than eager to see each other once again. Twenty five classmates participated plus 20 spouses/partners. In addition, 15946 Jill Carelton, the current President of the RMC Foundation, joined the gathering.
Most attendees were from the Ottawa area, but others from the Montreal area, Roger and Lina Gaudreau, and Marc and Louise Jetté, as well as Yvan and Alice Gagnon from Kingston answered the invitation as they have often done in the past.
The group was treated to a substantial BBQ lunch complemented by salads, cheeses and desserts, supplemented by treats from helpful guests. Michael Braham and his sous-chef, Charlie Emond, manned the BBQs.
The photo (with Jim and Gail seated above a lounging Phil Bury) attests to the spirit of camaraderie that our shared experience at military college has given the members of the Class of 1965, sustained since by the ongoing efforts that many members of the Class have made over the years, in many different ways, to keep all of us connected and engaged.

Après une pause en raison des inondations le long de la rivière des Outaouais où ils vivent, puis en raison de la pandémie de Covid, le 10 août 2021,Jim et Gail Carruthersont cru le moment propice d’accueillir les membres de la promotion de 1965 et leurs conjoints/partenaires de la région d’Ottawa et le voisinage à un déjeuner barbecue à leur maison sur la rive de Constance Bay.
Le jour s’est levé ensoleillé et chaud. Une brise rafraîchissante sur le rivage vers midi était bienvenue. Après une longue période d’isolement de Covid qui a vu l’annulation des rencontres locales périodiques et en particulier des réunions de classe quinquennales prévue en 2020, tous semblaient plus que impatients de se revoir. Vingt-cinq camarades de classe avec plus 20 conjoints/partenaires ont participé.. De plus, 15946 Jill Carelton, la présidente de la Fondation des CMR, s’est jointe au rassemblement.
La plupart des participants étaient de la région d’Ottawa, mais d’autres de la région de Montréal, Roger et Lina Gaudreau, et Marc et Louise Jetté, ainsi qu’Yvan et Alice Gagnon de Kingston ont répondu à l’invitation comme ils l’ont souvent fait par le passé.
Le groupe a eu droit à un déjeuner barbecue substantiel, complété par des salades, des fromages et des desserts, tous offerts par nos hôtes et parsemés de contributions d’invités serviables. Michael Braham et son sous-chef, Charles Emond, ont pris la commande des barbecues.
La photo (avec Jim et Gail assis au-dessus d’un Phil Buryqui se prélasse) témoigne de l’esprit de camaraderie que notre expérience partagée au Collège militaire a donné aux membres de la classe de 1965, soutenu depuis par les efforts continus que de nombreux membres de la classe ont déployés au cours des années et de différentes manières pour que nous restions tous connectés et engagés.
