Drummed out of “retirement” in 2005 he was CO MARPAC/JTFP HQ and then Chief LOG Plans, JFC NAPLES before a posting to NDHQ as MSRMS in 2010 and upon promotion to his current appointment as MS Comptroller in Feb 2011.
In 1992, he was posted to HMCS TORONTO as the commissioning Engineer Officer and saw the ship from build to its first operational deployment.
His early years include service with 1st Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery in Lahr, Germany; UK Army Staff Course 23 at the Royal Military College of Science in Shrivenham, England; and a stint at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa in the Directorate of Land Requirements.
After studying medicine at McMaster University, he served as Regimental Medical Officer to Third Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment in Germany and later as Base Surgeon and Officer Commanding MacPherson Hospital with 1 Field Ambulance Calgary.
Following his graduation as a navigator, he was posted to 405 Squadron, Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Greenwood, NS, and flew on the Argus maritime patrol aircraft until 1977, qualifying as a tactical Navigator.
In 1991, he was promoted to major, assumed command of a tank squadron, and was actually the last Canadian tank squadron commander to serve in Europe.
In 1984, he was selected to be an exchange instructor pilot, flying the F-16 fighter aircraft at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona.
In 2001, he was posted to Quantico, VA, as the Canadian student at the United States Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and remained to attend the USMC School of Advanced Warfighting.
His work ashore has included various tours in ship replacement projects, including as Project Manager for the Joint Support Ship and for the Canadian Surface Combatant projects.
In 2006 he was appointed Wing Commander of 15 Wing Moose Jaw, home of the 2 Canadian Forces Flying Training School and the Canadian Forces Snowbirds.
He served in 1994 as the Director of Cadets at the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario.
In December 2010, he was selected for a one-year deployment to Afghanistan as an Advisor to COMISAF within his Commander’s Initiatives Group Staff.
