13766 Konrad Mech met a couple of ex-Cadets south of the Equator recently. First, a classmate, 13801 Steven Strauss, was 1st Officer on the 777 flight on AC92 from Toronto to Santiago, Chile on Sunday March 13th. Steve’s wife Lavinica was also on the flight. Steven gave Konrad a tour of the cockpit and the crew rest area on landing in Santiago, and the three enjoyed a very nice dinner at Parque Arauco later that week. Then Konrad had the opportunity to spend some time with 20811 Barry Morocho in Quito Ecuador just before the spring equinox. This was very fortunate timing for Konrad because he was able to attend the inaugural AGM of the Quito Ecuador branch of the RMC Club of Canada. Konrad is shown congratulating Barry in the photograph, taken in La Ronda, in the heart of Colonial Quito (a UNESCO heritage site for those interested).

Barry returned to Ecuador to become the CFO of Quiport, a Public/Private Partnership between Aecon Engineering of Canada, a Brazilian constructor, and Ecuador to build and operate a new airport in Quito while divesting the assets at the old site and redeveloping it into parkland and commercial real estate. Durham Regional Police Support our Troops
24032 Slt Chantel Helwer (nee Lemay) – 10 Year Volunteer
Christmas 2010 marked the third consecutive year that the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) has supported our troops by donating food and toys to various Military Family Resource Centres (MFRCs) in Ontario. This initiative started a few days before Christmas in 2007, when the Annual Durham Regional Police Food and Toy Drive was still collecting items but the local charities said they could no longer accept donations. Police Constable Paul Hawrychuk then asked, “Who else needs donations?” And the question was answered by a naval reserve officer who had been a long time volunteer with the toy drive…the military!
24032Slt Chantel Helwer (nee Lemay) was the driving force behind organizing the donations to the military. She began volunteering with the Durham Regional Police in 2002 and, after joining the military in 2004, continued to volunteer her time over Christmas break. Her husband, mother and other members of the family have also pitched in to help.
The 2010 toy drive was another huge success. A big thanks should be extended to the Durham Regional Police and their volunteers who worked tirelessly to help not only their local families but their military communities as well.

RMC Rugby Team Supports New Zealand Earthquake fundraisers in Canada
We had a big contingent of kiwis; a large number from the relatively small but deeply passionate Ontario rugby community; a contingent of Royal Military College cadets who drove up from Kingston, presented an oversized cheque from their fundraising efforts and added some real style, fully kitted out, appropriately enough in their formal red and black uniforms (Canterbury colours); and many others with a strong desire to support Christchurch.
