4213 John Edwin (Jack) Caswell
CASWELL, John Edwin (Jack) – 1936 – 2012 It is with sadness we announce Jack’s death on July 1st, at home surrounded by his family at the age of 76. He is survived by his wife Arlene (nee Griffith) and his children David (Cathy) of Waverley, NS and Susan (Marty) Boisvert of Timmins. He was the incredibly proud and loving Grandad of Jacob Boisvert and Adriana and Signe Caswell. He will also be missed by his sister Margaret George of Ottawa as well as the extended Griffith family, especially his sister-in-law Vionne Costello of Toronto. He was predeceased by his parents R.E. (Eddie) in 1975 and Signe (nee Taipale) in 1983. Jack grew up in Schumacher and North Bay and continued his education at Royal Military College in Kingston in the class of 1958 during which time he received his Chemical Engineering degree from UBC. After serving in the RCAF for several years he returned to civilian life to begin his teaching career. After a short time in Toronto, he returned to the north with his family in 1968 where he taught at Roland Michener Secondary School for 25 years and watched with pride as so many of his students went on to achieve success. Once he retired, spring, summer and fall were spent at the cottage he built at Watabeag Lake which was truly where he was happiest. Winters were spent playing bridge, cheering (futilely) for the Leafs and sharing his wit and wisdom with the many friends that he gathered over the years. As per Jack’s wishes there will be a private family memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to Stinson Funeral Home, 100 Bruce Ave., South Porcupine (705) 235-2900. Source
