Ethan’s honour’s undergraduate thesis, which was supervised by Dr. Kenny, is titled “Change Without Progress: How the Indian Residential School System Remained in Operation After the Second World War”. A spectacular accomplishment. Congratulations, both!

The History Department would like to congratulate Acting Sub Lt Vas Patapovich, pictured here with RMC History Professor Dr. Sean Maloney, for winning the Lieutenant-Colonel Leroy Fraser Grant Memorial Prize during yesterday’s convocation ceremony. Their honour’s undergraduate thesis, which was supervised by Dr. Maloney, is titled “Electronic Iconography: Religious Propaganda in the Contemporary Russian Federation”. A well-deserved accolade indeed. Congratulations, both!

This week, we got to see him in action as the Aide-de-Camp of the Governor General of Canada, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon.

Il termine présentement une maîtrise en Études de la guerre. Nous avons eu la chance de le voir en action cette semaine en tant qu’aide de camp de la Gouverneure Générale du Canada, Son Excellence la très honorable Mary Simon.

History Department professors Drs. Howard Coombs and Randy Wakelam participated in the RMC convocation of their War Studies PhD candidate Colonel Lance Lewis, USMC, now Dr. Lewis! Colonel Lewis’ dissertation was entitled “Mars Takes Flight: The United States Marine Corps Adapting Aviation in Small Wars 1919-1933”.
After decades of service, Colonel Lewis is moving to the civilian sector and we wish him the best as he transitions from the Marine Corps!

Congratulations to War Studies PhD graduate Peter Owen, who yesterday at the 2024 RMC Convocation won the Governor Generals Gold Medal (academic medal) for highest academic achievement for a PhD student. Pete was supervised by Capt (Dr) Arthur Gullachsen, CD, PhD, Associate Professor of the RMC History Department. Pete has also secured a book contract for his PhD Thesis, “U.S. Marine Corps Aviation in the Second World War: Its effectiveness in support of the fleet”, to be published by the Naval Institute Press of Annapolis, MD. Congratulations, both, on this remarkable achievement!
