Construction of RMC Paladins team rooms
The Royal Military College of Canada has planned, developed and managed a project to construct varsity team rooms. Major Julia Atherley, College engineering officer, advised that the work includes the supply of labour, material, and equipment necessary to construct the RMC Varsity Team Rooms at Kingston Military Community Sport Centre (KMCSC), Royal Military College, CFB Kingston.
We asked Darren Cates (pictured above), director of athletics, what exactly does the construction of varsity team rooms mean for the teams? “The project includes two large sized team rooms and one smaller room for officials. One of the team rooms will be shared by the men’s basketball and volleyball teams and the other will be shared by the women’s basketball and volleyball teams.”
The project includes construction of structural concrete slab and electrical, mechanical and architectural components. Defence Construction Canada (DCC), which does contract administration for RMC, published a tender on 2009-09-16, which closed on October 8, 2009. Approximately 20% of the student body is involved in the varsity program.
RMC is fortunate to have a number of recently renovated athletic facilities available to both students and staff. Officer Cadets have access to a spacious field house with an indoor track, a gymnasium, squash courts, exterior tennis courts, a pool, a hot tub and a sauna. A climbing wall, an air-conditioned cardio room, a very large weight room, a spinning room and a martial arts room are also available.
The D Ath added, “The team rooms will also be used by CFB Kingston when hosting regional and national competitions as well as the CISM program. It is a great addition to the facility and will benefit the college for years to come!”
