Royal Military College of Canada  will host a bilingual conference ‘Camus on stage – Camus à la scène’ on 7 – 8 May 2009. It is through the medium of theatre that we would like to approach and, hopefully, rediscover Albert Camus. This new approach is likely to bring together Camus scholars, practitioners and theoreticians of the theatre, as well as those who are looking into transgeneric adaptations. It should be mentioned that film or audio adaptations of Camus’s works are also relevant. sophie.bastien@rmc.ca

Dr. Sophie Bastien has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of French Studies at the Royal Military College since 2004. To date, theatre has been the primary focus of her research. In 2006, she published her first book, Caligula et Camus. Interférences transhistoriques, with Rodopi Editions (Amsterdam/NewYork); it has won the 2007 APFUCC prize (Association of Canadian University French professors). Her articles on the plays of Camus have appeared in such periodicals as French Studies (Oxford) and Revue des Lettres modernes (Paris).
