All fourth-year cadets at Royal Military College destined for the Air Force will receive a copy of a new Air Force history book, On Windswept Heights: Historical Highlights of Canada’s Air Force, published April 1 to mark the 85th birthday of Canada’s Air Force. The book comes with a CD that expands upon many of the topics found in the book in both video and text format. To download the book click HERE.

The Ross Munro Media Award was initiated in 2002 by the Conference of Defence Associations (CDA) in concert with the Canadian Defence and Foreign Affairs Institute (CDFAI). The Award recognizes, annually, one Canadian journalist who has made a significant outstanding contribution to the public’s understanding of issues relating to Canada’s defence and security. Past recipients are Stephen Thorne, Garth Pritchard, Sharon Hobson, Bruce Campion-Smith, Christie Blatchford, Matthew Fisher, and Alec Castonguay. The nominee’s work must be considered noteworthy in educating Canadians about security and defence, armed conflict, or the impact of these issues on society. The journalism may take various forms so long as it deals with Government policy or helps increase understanding of the role of Canada’s armed forces and the need to protect the security of the nation. The work will normally have been widely acclaimed as significant. Award: The winner of the Ross Munro Media Award receives a replica of the Ross Munro Statue and a cash prize of $2,500. The Award presentation is made during the annual Vimy Award dinner, held this year on Friday, November 20, 2009 at the Canadian War Museum. CONFERENCE OF DEFENCE ASSOCIATIONS INSTITUTE: THE VIMY AWARD

Nominations are invited for the 2009 Vimy Award.

The Vimy Award was initiated in 1991 to recognize one Canadian who has made a significant and outstanding contribution to the defence and security of our nation and the preservation of our democratic values.

Previous recipients of the Award include the Right Honourable Joe Clark, General John de Chastelain, Major-Generals Lewis MacKenzie, and Roméo Dallaire, Dr. Jack Granatstein, the Right Honourable Brian Dickson, Vice-Admiral Larry Murray, Lieutenant-General (Retd) Charles H. Belzile, the Honourable Barnett Danson, Air Commodore Leonard Birchall, Colonel the Honourable John Fraser, General (Ret’d) Paul D. Manson, Dr. David J. Bercuson, Gordon Hamilton Southam, Brigadier General David Fraser, General
Ray Henault, and General (Ret’d) Rick Hillier.

The Award presentation is made during the annual Vimy Award dinner, held this year on Friday, November 20, 2009 at the Canadian War Museum.

Any Canadian may nominate a fellow citizen for the Award. Nominations must be in writing, and be accompanied by a summary of your reasons for your nomination and a short biography of the nominee. Nominations must be received by August 1, 2009 and should be addressed to:

Mises en candidature pour le prix Vimy 2009.

Le prix Vimy a été instauré en 1991 pour reconnaître un Canadien ou une Canadienne qui a fait une contribution significative et exceptionnelle à la défense et à la sécurité de notre pays et à la préservation de nos valeurs démocratiques.

Tout Canadien peut soumettre la candidature d’un de ses concitoyens pour le prix Vimy. Les mises en candidatures doivent être faites par écrit et être accompagnées d’un résumé des raisons qui vous motivent à proposer cette personne, ainsi que d’une courte biographie de la personne mise en candidature. Les candidatures doivent être reçues au plus tard le 1er août 2009 et devront être adressées à :
