On May 15 and 16 2025, over 300 students attending RMC were presented with their bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, and approximately 200 of them became commissioned officers of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). For most, these events mark the end of their military university journey and the beginning of their careers as commissioned officers of the CAF. Students of the Regular Officer Training Plan must successfully complete all four pillars – academics, military (leadership and ethos), fitness, and bilingualism – to graduate with an RMC degree, and to receive their Officer’s commission script.
The Minister of National Defence conferred graduating students with their Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees in his role as Chancellor and President of RMC.

The Teaching Excellence Award – this prize was donated by the Class of 1965 in memory of the late Dr. Tom Barton. It is given in recognition of exemplary concern for students, dedication to teaching and enthusiasm in lecturing and extraordinary ability to stimulate learning.

The Cowan Prize for Excellence in Research – The Cowan Prize for Excellence in Research was instituted in 2000 thanks to an endowment created by our former Principal Dr. John Scott Cowan. It is intended to recognize a member of faculty who has earned distinction through their scholarship. The deed of gift requires that the selection committee consider primarily the quality, originality, impact and quantity of the scholarly productivity of the researcher. Added weight may be given to work appearing in the past three years, and to the extent to which the work resonates with the special mission of the College, broadly defined.
Le prix d’excellence en recherche Cowan – Le prix d’excellence en recherche Cowan a été institué en 2000 grâce à un fonds de dotation crée par l’ancien recteur, M. John Scott Cowan, PhD. Ce prix vise à reconnaître un membre du corps professoral qui s’est distingué par ses travaux savants. L’acte de donation exige que le comité de sélection tienne principalement compte de la qualité, de l’originalité, de la portée et de l’abondance des travaux du savant. On peut accorder plus d’importance aux travaux publiés au cours des trois dernières années et à la mesure dans laquelle les travaux reflètent la mission spéciale du Collège, dans son sens large.
Sean Frankam Award for the Top Graduating Air Force Officer Cadet in Business Administration.
This award is bestowed on the top graduating Air Force cadet in Business Administration. It will be awarded on a yearly basis at the departmental level. Sean Frankham was a proud graduate of the Royal Military College with a degree in Business Administration. Sean was an accomplished management consultant with expertise in operational excellence and leadership. Skilled in change management, coaching, team building, and continuous improvement, Sean held an Executive MBA from Athabasca University and a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification. Sean’s core values were steeped in tradition, and he strongly believed in service to country and to others.

C’était un consultant en gestion accompli, spécialisé dans l’excellence opérationnelle et le leadership. Spécialiste aguerri de la gestion du changement, du mentorat, du renforcement de l’esprit d’équipe et de l’amélioration continue, il était titulaire d’une maîtrise en administration des affaires pour cadres de l’Université d’Athabasca et d’une accréditation Ceinture verte Lean Six Sigma. Editors note: The Old 18 Demonstration Team is a reenactment team that demonstrates the infantry tactics of the Royal Military College during the late 19th century, around the time of the original Old 18 and was supported with generous funding this year by the Class of 1999. The team uses original Martini-Henry Mk1 rifles firing blanks in addition to a Naval Field Gun(s).
