From 15 February to 18 February 2024, The Royal Military College of Canada Debate and International Affairs Association (DIAS) represented the Kingdom of Denmark in the Howard University International Model NATO Simulation in Washington, DC. Twenty-seven universities from Europe, Canada, and the United States participated in this competition. The aim of this simulation is to provide students the opportunity to understand how NATO functions organizationally while building their diplomatic, strategic, and public-speaking abilities.
All RMC participants earned awards for their performance, with OCdt Margarita Bajamić as head delegate and on the North Atlantic Council and OCdt David McKinney as North Atlantic Council co-chair receiving Outstanding Delegate awards, OCdt Zachary Bowerman on the Nuclear Planning Group earning the Leadership in Committee and Outstanding Delegate awards; NCdt Ethyn Ko on the Political Committee also gaining Leadership in Committee and Outstanding Delegate awards; OCdt Ryan Yin on the Military Committee receiving the Superior Delegate award; NCdt Selim Eskisarli gaining the Distinguished Delegate award on the Partnerships and Cooperative Security Committee; OCdt Al-Ansar Mohammed on the Emerging Security Challenges Committee receiving the Distinguished Delegate award.
On the first day, the cadets visited the embassy of Denmark in the United States of America and received a briefing from Mr. Morten Vestergaard Jacobsen, the First Secretary of Foreign and Security Policy, and LtCol Henrik Gram Pederson, the assistant defense attaché. The information and advice provided to the cadets proved to be priceless.
The team was awarded the Outstanding Delegation award, indicating a placement of first overall. The delegation was also highly motivated thanks to the opportunity to visit the Embassy of Canada in Washington, where they received a brief from Canadian naval attaché Capt (N) William Quinn (CMR ’90 Alumni). Additionally, MGen Michel-Henri St-Louis (CMR ’92 Alumni and Canadian Defence Attaché) visited the conference, motivating the cadets, and awarded OCdt Bajamić with a coin from the embassy for her leadership.
The DIAS team is incredibly grateful for the Alumni Association’s role in funding this trip and is thankful for the amazing experience and opportunity to represent RMC abroad.

Les étudiants du Collège militaire royal du Canada participent à la simulation de réunion du Conseil de l’OTAN à l’Université Howard, à Washington D.C.
Du 15 au 18 février 2024, le club de débat et d’affaires internationales du Collège militaire royal du Canada (CMR) a représenté le Royaume du Danemark dans le cadre de la simulation de réunion du Conseil de l’OTAN organisée par l’Université Howard, à Washington D.C. Vingt-sept universités d’Europe, du Canada et des États-Unis ont participé à cette simulation. L’objectif est de permettre aux étudiants de comprendre le fonctionnement organisationnel de l’OTAN tout en perfectionnant leurs habiletés oratoires, stratégiques et diplomatiques.
Tous les participants du CMR ont remporté des prix : l’élève-officière Margarita Bajamić, chef de délégation et membre du Conseil de l’Atlantique Nord, ainsi que l’élève-officier David McKinney, coprésident du Conseil de l’Atlantique Nord, ont reçu la mention de Délégué remarquable; l’élève-officier Zachary Bowerman, membre du Groupe des plans nucléaires, de même que l’aspirant de marine Ethyn Ko, membre du Comité politique, ont reçu les mentions de Délégué remarquable et de Leadership au sein des comités; l’élève-officier Ryan Yin, membre du Comité militaire, a reçu la mention de Délégué exceptionnel; l’élève-officier Selim Eskisarli, membre du Comité des partenariats et de la sécurité coopérative, ainsi que l’élève-officier Al-Ansar Mohammed, membre du Comité des enjeux de sécurité émergents, ont reçu la mention de Délégué distingué.
Le premier jour, les élèves-officiers ont visité l’ambassade du Danemark aux États-Unis et rencontré M. Morten Vestergaard Jacobsen, premier secrétaire des affaires étrangères et de la sécurité, et le lieutenant-colonel Henrik Gram Pederson, attaché de défense adjoint. Les renseignements et les conseils fournis par ceux-ci aux cadets se sont révélés inestimables.
L’équipe s’est classée au premier rang, ce qui lui a valu le prix de la Délégation remarquable. C’est avec grand enthousiasme qu’elle a aussi eu la chance de visiter l’ambassade du Canada à Washington, où elle a rencontré le capitaine de vaisseau William Quinn, attaché naval du Canada (diplômé de la promotion de 1990 du CMR Saint-Jean). De plus, le major-général Michel-Henri St-Louis (diplômé de la promotion de 1992 du CMR Saint-Jean et attaché de défense du Canada) a visité la conférence afin d’encourager les élèves-officiers et de remettre à l’élève-officière Bajamić une pièce de l’ambassade pour souligner son leadership.
Le club de débat et d’affaires internationales remercie sincèrement l’Association des ancien(ne)s d’avoir contribué au financement de ce voyage et est reconnaissant d’avoir profité de cette occasion exceptionnelle de représenter le CMR à l’étranger.
