Language Centre says goodbye to exceptional teacher
BGen Friday (Commandant), Dr. Bates (Vice-Principal), Dr. McDonough (Dean of Arts), Mr. Hau (Registrar’s Office) and R. Paquet (Language Centre) were the keynote speakers this past Thursday (18 June) at the SSM when Language Centre said goodbye to one exceptional RMCC teacher, Ms. Rita Cormier, who is about to enjoy a well-deserved retirement after more than 33 years of service. The celebration, which included bagpipes, Highlands dancers and a live band, was attended by many people including Deans, Department Heads, professors, administrative staff, friends, military personnel and former students. The keynoters spoke eloquently about the many achievements of Ms. Cormier, who over the years taught numerous well-known individuals (including many members of the management team and the current Chief of the Defence Staff, who incidentally sent a note for the occasion), designed and managed the RMCC Continuous Senior Course for C Level and was heavily involved in local theater and the community at large, just to name a few. The Department wants to thank all involved, and in particular the Commandant, the Vice-Principal and the Dean, for their much appreciated participation. Many thanks, also, to Ms. Catherine Lord, who was the main organizer for this event, and to the team comprised of Language Centre teachers that helped her. Ms. Cormier will be greatly missed and the entire Language Centre personnel wishes her all the best in this new chapter of her life.

Le Bgén Friday (Commandant), M. Bates, Ph.D. (Vice-Recteur), M. McDonough, Ph.D. (Doyen des arts), M. Hau (Bureau du secrétaire général) et R. Paquet (Centre des langues) étaient les orateurs ce jeudi (le 18 juin) au MOC alors que le Centre des langues soulignait la retraite bien méritée, après plus de 33 années de service, d’une professeure exceptionnelle, Mme Rita Cormier. De nombreuses personnes, y compris des doyens, des directeurs de département, des professeurs, du personnel administratif, des amis, des militaires et quelques anciens étudiants, ont assisté à la célébration, qui incluait cornemuses, danseuses écossaises et groupe de musique. Les orateurs ont éloquemment évoqué les nombreux accomplissements de Mme Cormier, qui au fil des ans a enseigné à de nombreux individus bien connus (dont plusieurs membres de la direction et l’actuel chef d’état-major de la défense, qui a d’ailleurs fait parvenir une note pour l’occasion), a conçu et géré le cours supérieur de niveau C du CMRC et s’est énormément impliquée dans l’ensemble de la communauté et le théâtre local, pour ne nommer que ceux-là. Le département tient à remercier tous ceux qui se sont présentés, et plus particulièrement le Commandant, le Vice-Recteur et le Doyen des arts pour leur participation fort appréciée. Sincères remerciements, aussi, à Mme Catherine Lord, qui était l’organisatrice en chef de cet événement, ainsi qu’à l’équipe de professeurs du Centre des langues qui l’a épaulée. Mme Cormier va beaucoup nous manquer, et l’ensemble du personnel du Centre des langues lui souhaite beaucoup de bonheur dans ce nouveau chapitre de sa vie.

Aboriginal Leadership Opportunity Year (ALOY)
The ALOY Completion Ceremony took place on the RMCC Parade Square this past Friday, 19 June.
The Reviewing Officer was Lieutenant – General JMM Hainse.
This 2015 “Completion Ceremony”, according to the parade program included 17 officer cadets from: Ontario (4); Manitoba (3); North West Territories (3); Alberta (2); British Columbia (2); New Brunswick (1); Nova Scotia (1); and Quebec (1).
The ALOY program was created in 2008 to provide a military education and learning experience for members of aboriginal communities in Canada.
This program strives to provide aboriginal cadets with the opportunity to excel in the four cornerstones that are the core of life at RMCC – Leadership, Academics, Military Training and Athletics.
Due to other commitments we were unable to attend the Completion Ceremony this year. We are hoping to receive a more detailed article and photos – if received – we will use in a future edition.
