Vancouver Branch Ski Day – Tuesday 4 March 2025
We are all set for a great RMC Vancouver Branch Ski Day on Tuesday March 4th (scheduled to try and avoid both weekends and BC school breaks). For those not inclined to ski, an equivalent village strolling/shopping day is available. The highly acclaimed Audain Art Gallery is across the road from our Après location. There is skating at the Whistler Olympic Plaza, with low admission and rental fees (free loan of helmets and skating aids). The Lost Lake Nordic Trails are also in walking/free shuttle bus distance, (they normally have groomed flood lit trails, a couple of warming huts and a day lodge with shop/rentals/snacks/washrooms but this is all weather/conditions dependant).
For skiing and snowboarding, we will convene at 10:30 am at the Rendezvous Café which is in the Rendezvous Lodge (Top of Blackcomb Gondola). Aim for the tables just to the right of the main door as you enter (by the black bear). Look for Dave Blake-Knox or Dana Vanier (who has graciously offered to provide back-up for Dave).
Parking: If you are taking a car, you could park it in Blackcomb Lot #6 or #7. After skiing you can go back to your car, change into more comfortable clothing (footwear particularly), walk back to the Excalibur Gondola mid station, enjoy our Earl’s après and then before 1830 hrs take the gondola back up to your car. Alternatively, we would recommend the pay parking lots close to Earl’s. #1, #2 or even #3 ($14 day or $3 hourly) …. Parking is free after 5:00 pm until 3:00 am at which time it is not allowed.
For those that do not have WB or Vail Epic Passes, you might try asking some of our members if they have any Ski With A Friend (SWAF) or Buddy pass availability (both the season’s pass holder and guest need to go together to guest services to get those and this can be done prior to the day of skiing). WB information is that Buddy/SWAF passes are currently $197 CAD whereas Cdn/US Military/Veteran rate is $186. Both prices are before taxes. Note that there may be some variation in price due to when during the year the season’s pass holder paid for the pass in question.
After an enjoyable day on the slopes, David Blake-Knox has organized a wrap-up gathering starting at about 3:00 PM at Earl’s in the Village ( along the Village Stroll – opposite Mongolie Grill, above Shoppers Drug Mart). David has arranged a private reception room for us (aka VIP Room) that afternoon at the back of Earl’s. We will be able to enjoy our company and partake of Happy Hour drinks/eats until 5:00 pm. You can find more Earls information on their web-site and also the Happy Hour menu. Earls does have a “ski-lock” rack outside
We would appreciate it if you could indicate your intention to join us. RSVP to both [email protected] and [email protected] .
Looking forward to seeing you out on the mountain.
VAC Regional Outreach Day – 4 March 2025
All Veterans deserve support. As the fastest growing group of Veterans, we want every woman Veteran to know that they are not alone. We’re here to support.
Recognizing the barriers women Veterans experience accessing certain services and benefits, on March 4, we are hosting a VAC Regional Women Outreach Day as part of Honouring Her Service week.
Across Canada, women Veterans and still-serving members will have the opportunity to meet face-to-face with women staff to discuss their claims, how to access VAC benefits and register for a My VAC Account on-site.
Request an appointment online: https://www.veterans.gc.ca/en/vac-request-person-appointment include Women Outreach Day in the “additional information” section of the form.
