We are proud to share that a delegation from the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC), led by Col Dr. Howard G. Coombs and Dr. Katherine Rossy, participated in the 6th International Forum for Peace, Security, and Prosperity (IFPSP) in Palermo, Italy, from March 22–25. This year’s forum theme, “Creating Adaptive Forces: Building Military Resilience in a Changing International Landscape,” brought together officer cadets, practitioners, and scholars from more than 22 countries for four days of dialogue, workshops, and international exchange focused on the future of peace and security. Palermo offered a particularly meaningful setting, reflecting on Canada’s historic role in Sicily during the Second World War while reinforcing the importance of preparing globally minded leaders for today’s complex security environment.
RMC was exceptionally well represented by OCdts J.D. Comegys and James Lawson, Cpl Patrick Marsalek, and NCdt Nahian Khan, who participated in academic panels, workshops, the March for Peace, and collaborative discussions with peers from around the world. The delegation was also pleased to reconnect with Dr. Hal Klepak, Professor Emeritus of History and Strategy at RMC, who addressed the forum and mentored participants. Col Dr. Coombs served as Academic Organizing Chair, helping shape the forum’s themes, speakers, and workshops, while also presenting on Canadian perspectives on military resilience and leadership through the historical example of the Medok Pocket. In a particularly meaningful moment, he shared Canadian Second World War medals belonging to a soldier who served in the Italian Campaign, offering cadets a tangible connection to history. Dr. Rossy returned for a second consecutive year as emcee of the forum, served on the Academic Planning Committee, and led a student plenary where cadets from participating nations reflected on the future of military resilience and international cooperation.
Founded in 2019, the IFPSP continues to grow as an important international youth platform dedicated to learning from the past, educating future generations, and fostering informed dialogue on peace and security. RMC remains proud to play a leadership role in its continued development. Looking ahead, Dr. Rossy is honoured to have been invited to serve as the next Co-Chair of the Forum alongside Col (GS) (Res) Thomas Reiberling, German Defence Attaché in Rome.

Coombs, Ph.D. et la Prof. Katherine Rossy, Ph.D., a participé au 6e Forum international pour la paix, la sécurité et la prospérité (FIPSP), tenu à Palerme, en Italie, du 22 au 25 mars. Le thème du forum cette année, « Créer des forces adaptatives : renforcer la résilience militaire dans un paysage international en évolution », a réuni des élèves-officiers, des praticiens et des universitaires de plus de 22 pays pour quatre jours de dialogue, d’ateliers et d’échanges internationaux portant sur l’avenir de la paix et de la sécurité. Palerme offrait un cadre particulièrement significatif, rappelant le rôle historique du Canada en Sicile pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale tout en soulignant l’importance de préparer des leaders ouverts sur le monde capables d’évoluer dans l’environnement sécuritaire complexe d’aujourd’hui.
Le CMR était remarquablement bien représenté par les élèves-officiers J.D. Comegys et James Lawson, le caporal Patrick Marsalek et l’aspirant de marine Nahian Khan, qui ont participé à des panels universitaires, des ateliers, à la Marche pour la paix ainsi qu’à des discussions collaboratives avec des pairs provenant du monde entier. La délégation a également eu le plaisir de renouer avec le Dr Hal Klepak, professeur émérite d’histoire et de stratégie au CMR, qui a pris la parole au forum et accompagné les participants à titre de mentor. Le col Coombs, Ph.D., a agi à titre de président organisateur académique, contribuant à l’élaboration des thèmes, des conférenciers et des ateliers du forum, tout en présentant les perspectives canadiennes sur la résilience militaire et le leadership à travers l’exemple historique de la poche de Medak. Dans un moment particulièrement marquant, il a partagé des médailles canadiennes de la Seconde Guerre mondiale ayant appartenu à un soldat ayant servi durant la campagne d’Italie, offrant ainsi aux élèves-officiers un lien tangible avec l’histoire. La Prof Rossy a assuré, pour une deuxième année consécutive, le rôle de maîtresse de cérémonie du forum. Elle a également siégé au comité de planification académique et dirigé une séance plénière étudiante au cours de laquelle des élèves-officiers de différents pays participants ont réfléchi à l’avenir de la résilience militaire et de la coopération internationale.
Fondé en 2019, le FIPSP continue de croître comme une importante plateforme internationale jeunesse consacrée à l’apprentissage du passé, à l’éducation des générations futures et à la promotion d’un dialogue éclairé sur la paix et la sécurité. Le CMR demeure fier de jouer un rôle de leadership dans son développement continu. Pour l’avenir, la Prof Rossy est honorée d’avoir été invitée à agir à titre de prochaine coprésidente du Forum aux côtés du col (EMG) (réserve) Thomas Reiberling, attaché de défense allemand à Rome.
