Note: Cut-off date to “sign up” for old-timers buds – is end of business – this Tuesday 21 Jan.

We are currently sorting out: timings;  dressing room allotments; admission / security requirements with the K-Rock staff. The plan is to notify everyone involved of all the details – by individual e-mails by Wed – end of day.

18 January 2014 – Montreal Bound

Today we are headed to Montreal to face of against the McGill Redmen. I love playing at McConnell Arena, and the team always gives McGill a good run in their barn. Can’t wait to shoot against friend and former Paladin player Andrew Flemming as he patrols the crease for the Redmen. Should be an emotional game after the team said goodbye to Major Danny McLeod last night. West Point is starting to creep into our minds, but it’s still not the focus with today’s game and Tuesday night’s game against Queen’s being so important.

19 January 2014 – Long ride home from Montreal

Last night saw us face a very tough Mcgill squad. After giving up three quick ones in the first we we never really able to get ourselves back together. The 3rd period was much better as we held Mcgill scoreless and scored one ourselves to battle to a 7-2 finish. It was a quiet bus  ride home.

20 January 2014 – Down to business

Back to work at Constantine today in preparation for Queen’s tomorrow night. The boys hit the ice pretty energized today, although it is becoming evident that some illness is creeping its way into the dressing room. This time of year is always hectic for the Cadet players, many of whom are faced with new bar positions, moving rooms and adjusting to their new course schedules. No rest for the wicked, especially during this period of rivalry games.

21 January 2014 – Battle of the Causeway, Round 1

Queen’s tonight. Many of the rookie players will get their first taste of regular season action tonight against the visiting Gaels squad. There is always a special level of emotion when we play Queen’s. I’ve often said over my four years at RMC that each game against Coach Brett Gibson’s Gaels has felt like a playoff match-up. I don’t expect tonight’s game to be any different. I’ve been feeling pretty sick today myself, but obviously I’ll be there beside the boys at puck drop tonight.

22 January 2014 – Taking Stock

Last night obviously didn’t go as planned, dropping a 3-0 game to Queen’s. As predicted their goaltending once again stole them a victory, although we certainly didn’t get the breaks we would have liked from the officiating. Excuses, excuses though. Today is the first day of practice focused on the West Point Game this coming Saturday. It kills me that I won’t be there today because I have been held out of class and placed sick-in-quarters today, doctor’s orders. Better to get healthy now and be ready for Saturday, I guess. However, I haven’t been able to get West Point off my mind today, its too close to ignore.

Curling Bonspiel

This past weekend (the 11-12 January 2014), members of the RMCC Curling Club participated in the Sportsman Bonspiel in Picton, Ontario. The weekend was a great chance for the club to demonstrate how good its curlers are; especially as this was the first tournament of the season for the club. The members of the team were RMCC graduate and masters student Jamie Jessup, fourth year student Travis Lane (26181), first year student Mikael Lemieux (26968), and Mr. Dan Emmerson.

This bonspiel was enjoyed by all, and while the team did not make it to the championship, they came but a shot away. As well, the team had the best draw to the button score out of the other 14 teams present. The RMCC Curling Club had a fantastic time at the event and were invited to come back the following year. To further add to the experience, the team had the great opportunity to play against 11699  ex-RMCC Cadet (Class of ’78) Ian Munroe. Thus the experience was truly complete. Let us hope the team and club can carry forward the good spirits from this bonspiel into any future events that may arise.
