(W) Volleyball Prepare for Second Half of Season with off court training

By: Kara Mazerolle

While the majority of the Cadet Wing enjoyed their last few days of Holidays, the women’s volleyball team began gearing up for the second half of their OUA season. This included a team training session at Kingston’s only exclusive indoor cycling studio – APEX indoor cycling, lead by team strength and conditioning coach, Kara Mazerolle. Located in the newly renovated Smith Robinson building, the studio offers complimentary spin shoes, towels, fruit, showers and a guarantee that you will sweat, burn some calories and meet great people.

On Saturday afternoon, the team dived into a 45 minute energy systems training that pushed them to their limits and explored the unique opportunity for everyone to work as a team during the ride.

The team participates regularly in off court strength and conditioning around their practice and game schedule to prevent injuries and enhance performance. The cycling class proved to be a positive session that the team can continue to build on in the second half. Here is what two of the senior players had to say:

(III) Chang

“I think team cycling is a good team workout because it really makes everyone work hard, we all suffered together and pushed through every bit of the workout together. Overall, cycling is difficult and gives the team a chance to push each other physically while off the court”

(III) Behnke

“After completing Kara’s cycling workout with my team, I am convinced that team cycling is a perfect activity for enforcing the importance of doing your personal best for the team. It really tests your physical and mental stamina, but to keep you motivated, you have your teammates working just as hard right next to you, and when your legs want to give up, you know that in the end it is only going to help you jump higher at the net! With this, we not only got a great workout in, but also bonded as a team”

The Women’s volleyball team will defend their home court next weekend:

10th vs York at 3pm

11th vs Nipissing at 3pm
