Aboriginal Leadership Opportunity Year (ALOY) Graduation Ceremony at RMC
Commodore William Truelove, Commandant RMC and Chief Donald Maracle, Chief of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte (MBQ) were the reviewing officers for the 2011 ALOY graduation held last Friday, June 17. This is the third year that such a graduation has taken place at the Royal Military College of Canada.
ALOY is a one year program at RMC for Aboriginal youth that focuses on academic education, military skills, leadership skills, athletics and cultural awareness. The main aim of the program is to help individuals develop their leadership potential to better serve their communities and their country.
Many family and friends of the 16 graduates from different parts of Canada travelled to Kingston for the impressive ceremony.
“I’M VERY PROUD TO SEE THAT SOME OF OUR YOUNG PEOPLE ARE PURSUING THE MILITARY CAREER, AS A MATTER OF FACT OUR DISTINCTION OF THE MOHAWK NATION AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE CROWN IS THEIR MILITARY SERVICE AND SO I’M VERY VERY PROUD TO SEE MANY PEOPLE FROM FIRST NATIONS CARRYING ON THEY MILITARY TRADITION.”
