Commodore “Bill & Brenda” Truelove Open the Doors to Historic Commandant’s Residence…
The College “Mom”, Brenda, had the kitchen in full gear as she cooked up a Thanksgiving Brunch for 33 cadets on Sunday Morning. The cadets, from all years and squadrons, took a break from studying for mid-terms to enjoy some home cooked food and camaraderie in the comfort of the Commandant’s residence. After a great breakfast, many grabbed the guitars or sat at the piano and entertained the group.
“About 190 cadets remained on the campus over Thanksgiving Weekend. It was very nice to be able to entertain some of them in the Residence,” said Commordore Truelove.
“We’re looking forward to hosting several brunches over the next few months in an effort to afford all the cadets the chance to see the historic Commandant’s residence during their time at the College,” added the first year RMCC commandant.

I Year perspective
For me, the Commandant’s Brunch represented two triumphs. First, I had the opportunity to bask in the glory the Commandant’s House, which, in my opinion, is the heart of the College as it is the oldest building, representing the rich and colourful heritage of this historic intuition. Secondly, with his excellent hospitality, Commodore Truelove provided an admirable example of in leading by the front, simultaneously showing the deep level of concern and appreciation he has for the Cadets at the College. From a first year perspective, this event further solidified my indoctrination into RMC, as well as providing an opportunity to network.

II Year Perspective
“I felt as if I was part of the family.”
The commandant and his family immediately welcomed us into their home, as if we were old friends. Both Commandant Truelove, and his wife, Brenda, did an excellent job in provoking conversation amongst both the cadets and the family, all the while cooking breakfast in their kitchen. This gave the opportunity for the commandant and cadets to share without boundary a glimpse of their everyday lives. Following the meal, we were all able to put our feet up and enjoy what the residence has to offer. After a while a few cadets including myself were able to strike up a tune on some of the musical instruments at the residence. The warm atmosphere and excellent home cooked cuisine was a well enjoyed opportunity for all.

III Year Perspective
‘’Le commandant et sa famille on accueilli tout le monde et c’est clair que les cadets sont toujours invités dans sa maison comme au Collège.‘’
Dimanche matin, le Commandant a invité trente Élofs chez lui. C’était ma première fois dans cette maison historique, un symbole du collège. Nous avons passé un bon moment pour célébrer l’Action de Grâces, la beauté de la saison et le plus vieil édifice du campus (sauf le Fort Frederick).
À l’intérieur de sa résidence, j’ai trouvé une photo d’un navire avec une légende qui disait : Félicitation pour avoir gagné le challenge du « toe pick ». J’ai demandé au commandant qu’est ce que ça voulais dire et il m’a répondu que pendant une mission d’aide humanitaire, il a réussi à faire arrêter le navire comme un « toe pick stop » en hockey. Arrêter de cette manière a donné aux troupes qui descendaient sur terre la distance la plus courte à parcourir. J’aime toujours les histoires vraies qui proviennent d’expériences véritables

IV Year Perspective
‘’Un brunch en famille, de nouvelles rencontres, une atmosphère agréable..”
Pour la première fois depuis le mois de mai, j’ai eu l’impression de manger un vrai dîner en famille. J’étais en OJT tout l’été et j’ai été assez occupé depuis le début du semestre, alors je n’ai pas eu le temps de retourner chez moi depuis ce temps là. J’ai vraiment apprécié le fait que le Commandant lance cette invitation à tous ceux et celles qui sont dans la même situation que moi et qui n’ont pas vu leurs familles depuis quelques mois, c’était vraiment une belle pensée. Le brunch était excellent et tout le monde y a mis la main à la pâte. Pendant que le commandant faisait cuire les crêpes avec son tablier de chef cuisinier, Brenda sa femme préparait les œufs, Ashley et Tina prenaient des photos, certains Élofs jouaient de la guitare, d’autres jouaient avec le chien. Bref, on a tous vraiment profité d’une atmosphère de famille qui nous a permis de créer des liens avec d’autres Élofs qui étaient restés au Collège pour l’Action de Grâce aussi.
