Captain Amanda Ales (RMC 2021 – and current Masters Student in Physics and Space Science) recently competed in the Miss Universe Canada competition.

Captain Ales advanced to the final round of Miss Universe Canada and finished in the Top 15.

Amanda is a remarkable officer, an aerospace engineer, a post-grad student in physics and space science, a national-level athlete, a talented musician, and a role model for young women in STEM and in uniform. As a delegate in this year’s competition, she promoted youth engagement in STEM and sports, and shared her journey in the Canadian Armed Forces. Her ambition to reach for the stars, literally, as an aspiring astronaut, inspires all of us. She represents the very best of what it means to serve: intelligence, leadership, resilience and vision.

She’s showing the world that you don’t have to choose between science and service, ambition, and grace – you can be all of it.

Capt Ales is the first ever Regular Force member to compete in Miss Universe Canada and is an Aerospace Engineering Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force.  With eight years of service, her career in the CAF has allowed her to pursue her dreams in the field of space while also continuing her passion for sports by playing at the national level on the CAF’s sports teams.

Capt Ales is currently completing her Master’s of Physics and Space Science at the Royal Military College of Canada with goals of becoming an astronaut.

We couldn’t be prouder. Bravo Zulu, Amanda!
