Paladins 10th Anniversary Slips Under the Radar!
It has been over ten years since “Paladins” have been part of the RMC culture.
Law Of Armed Conflict International Competitions
In the Fall of each year selected Royal Military College of Canada
cadets participate in competition on aspects of the Law of Armed
Conflict with cadets at the US Air Force Academy, US Marine Academy,
US Naval Academy, and US Coast Guard Academy. While the nature of the
competition varies from year-to-year, in the past position papers
have been exchanged and there has been a VTC debate with the students
at different academies. In the Spring, three cadets are selected to
participate in a competition on the Law of Armed Conflict at the
International Institute of Humanitarian Law in San Remo, Italy. These
cadets receive extensive training in Law of Armed Conflict and use
those skills to compete against cadets from around the world.
In 2005, a team of six officer cadets from the Royal Military College of
Canada (RMC), led by military lawyers from the Office of Military
Legal Education at RMC, won the International Institute for
Humanitarian Law’s 4th Edition of the worldwide competition on the
Law of Armed Conflict (LOAC) for military academies Friday, April 8,
2005 in Sanremo, Italy.
Military Academies from all over the world are invited to send teams
of senior officer cadets to this unique international event. In 2005,
RMC competed with the US Air Force Academy, US Marine Academy,
US Naval Academy, and US Coast Guard Academy, Royal Military Academy
of Belgium, Royal Netherlands Naval College, Australia Defence Forces
Academy, Finnish National Defence College, Hellenic Naval Academy
(Greece), Cadet School of Ireland, Sainte Cyr Special Military College
(France), National Defence Academy (India), Serbian Military Academy,
Swedish Military Academy, and Ryazan Airborne Institute (Russian Federation).
This competition affords an opportunity to get involved in international law issues
and cross-cultural exchange.
