Annual Garden Party Held Indoors

A long time tradition at the Royal Military College of Canada is the annual garden party hosted by the commandant of the day and his family.
This year the weather did not cooperate, however, this did not take away from the event. Everything was moved indoors to Yeo Hall at the Cadet Mess. The place was just nicely filled with faculty, staff, cadets and a few VIPs from the local area.
A good time was definitely had by all!

ALOY STUDENTS MEET THE THE BOSS!
Commodore William Truelove, Commandant of the Royal Military College of Canada, spoke to this years class of cadets who are in the Aboriginal Leadership Opportunity Year (ALOY). The Commandant congratulated the 20 students who make up the class on their success so far in being chosen for the program and encouraged them to continue to work hard to achieve their goals.
The cadets, who come from across Canada, were also welcomed earlier this month by the Mohawk Community through the Katarokwi Native Friendship Centre in Kingston. Candidates in the ALOY program are enrolled in the Canadian Forces for a year at the rank of Officer Cadet. They must be Aboriginal Canadians who are at least 17 years old, have completed grade 12 and be physically and medically fit. The average age of ALOY cadets in the program this year is 19 and a half years old. ALOY is an RMC program for First Nations, Métis and Inuit candidates with post-secondary potential. The aim is to help them develop leadership abilities, military skills and participate in athletics while engaged in academic studies. After the preparatory year, they have the opportunity to apply to RMC as full-fledged officer cadets as part of the Regular Officer Training Program (ROTP).
