The $20,000 Technology Venture Challenge

At the annual technology venture entrepreneurship challenge, students from Royal Military College of Canada, Algonquin, La Cité Collégiale, Carleton University, University of Ottawa, L’Université du Québec à Hull, Queen’s University and St. Lawrence College are invited to submit proposals for starting technology-based companies. The team whose proposal represents the most promising technology start-up opportunity will be awarded $10,000. Two runner-up teams will each receive $5,000. Deadline for the semi-final 5 page submissions: Monday, April 21st 2009 by midnight. Send submission to:

Canada Post has released its 2009 stamp program with a significant aviation milestone slated for recognition – the 100th anniversary of the first powered flight in Canada. On February 23,1909,the Silver Dart rose from the frozen waters of Bras d’Or Lake in Nova Scotia, and in 2009, Canada Post will mark the centenary with a stamp for the First Flight in Canada.  Source

Dans le cadre de son programme des timbres-poste de 2009, la Société canadienne des postes (SCP) commémore une étape importante dans le domaine de l’aviation, soit le 100e anniversaire du premier vol propulsé au Canada. En effet, le 23 février 1909 s’envolait le Silver Dart depuis la surface gelée du lac Bras d’Or, en Nouvelle Écosse. Scholarship deadline looms
Friday, Jan. 16, is the deadline to apply for one of 14 scholarships for women studying engineering being offered this year by the Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation. Scholarships, valued from $2,500 to the $15,000 Claudette MacKay-Lassonde scholarship for PhD candidates, will be awarded to students at the undergrad, master’s and PhD levels not for academic achievement, but on the basis of leadership, extracurricular activities and the ability to act as a role model for women to pursue a career in engineering. The Seventy Years On: New Perspectives on the Second World War conference will be held 31 August 2009 to 2 September 2009 at Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This international and interdisciplinary conference, organized by the University of Calgary, will bring together in one setting scholars with new analyses of the Second World War and the makers of established narratives.
