ENTRÉE DANS LA VIEILLE BRIGADE – ENTRY INTO OLD BRIGADE
CLASSE D’ENTRÉE 1959 CMR ENTRY CLASS
La classe d’entrée 1959 au CMR se joindra à la Vieille Brigade lors des cérémonies de fin d’année qui auront lieu à 1000 hres le 23 mai 2009 au CMR Saint-Jean. La classe 1959 continuera ainsi une tradition établie par la classe 1958 qui a fait son entrée dans la brigade lors des cérémonies de réouverture du collège en mai 2008. En effet, lors de ces cérémonies, la classe 1958 a paradé et a été « embrigadée » sous les ordres de l’Adjudant de la Vieille Brigade, 3918 Al Roberts – un événement fort remarqué et apprécié par le public.
Pour marquer l’événement, la classe 1959 offrira en cadeau quatre épées qui seront utilisées par les commandants d’escadre et d’escadrons lors des grandes cérémonies. Nous vous encourageons à participer à cet événement et à contribuer un montant minimum de $100.00 pour le cadeau. Bien entendu, toute contribution supérieure sera acceptée et les surplus au coût des épées demeureront au collège pour défrayer d’autres dépenses reliées à ce projet.. Vos contributions se feront par l’entremise de la Fondation du Club des Anciens du CMR et un reçu officiel sera émis pour fins d’impôt. Allez au www.cmrstjean.com. Notez que votre participation aux cérémonies à Saint-Jean n’influence ni ne remplace en rien les activités entourant l’entrée dans la Vieille Brigade qui auront lieu à Kingston en octobre 2009. Ce sont deux événements distincts mais complémentaires. Plusieurs anciens ont déjà indiqué leur intention de participer et je vous prie de passer le mot – nous lançons notre campagne de publicité

CMR Entry Class 1959 will join the Old Brigade at the Graduation Ceremonies to be held at 1000 hrs on 23 May 2009 at CMR Saint-Jean. Entry Class 1959 will perpetuate a tradition started at the official re-opening of CMR in May 2008. Indeed, during the ceremonies, Entry Class 1958 paraded and joined the Old Brigade under the command of the Adjutant of the Old Brigade, 3918 Al Roberts – a very moving and successful event much appreciated by the public.
To mark the event, a gift consisting of four ceremonial swords will be offered to the College. These swords will be used by the Wing and Squadron Commanders during ceremonial parades. We encourage you to participate in this event and to contribute a minimum of $100.00 towards the purchase of the swords. Of course any amount of more than $100.00 will be accepted and any surplus to the cost of the swords will remain at the College to defray other related expenses. Your contributions will be made through the “Fondation du Club des Anciens du CMR” and an official receipt will be issued for income tax purposes. Go to www.cmrstjean.com. Note that your participation in the ceremonies at Saint-Jean does not in any way replace or compromise other activities surrounding our entry into the Old Brigade in Kingston in October 2009. These are separate but complementary events. Many have indicated that they intend to participate and I ask that you spread the good word – we are just starting our publicity campaign.

Seventy Years On: New Perspectives on the Second World War

In honour of the seventieth anniversary of the Second World War, the University of Calgary is hosting a conference for academics and senior-level graduate students from around the world. The purpose of this event is to bring together in a single setting some of the newest interpretations of the Second World War.
“Seventy Years On: New Perspectives on the Second World War,” will provide an excellent opportunity for scholars to share cutting-edge research in an international, multi-disciplinary forum. We invite researchers from history and related disciplines to share their research on the following topics:
*Turning Points Revisited
*Coalition Warfare
*Tertiary Theatres
Applicants are encouraged to submit original work on the conference themes. “New perspectives” may include, for example, revisiting operational history, studying the impact of culture on combat, or the relationship between the environment and warfare. CASIS is pleased to announce the 7th annual competition for the Geoff Weller Memorial Essay Prize. The competition is open to undergraduate or graduate students enrolled at a Canadian university, or any Canadian student enrolled at a university outside of Canada. Essays must address some dimension of intelligence, security, or law enforcement issues in any time period and in any country. The deadline for submissions is June 30, 2009.
