Recognizing Recipients of The King’s Coronation Medal / Lauréats de la Médaille du couronnement du roi Charles III

The Royal Military Colleges of Canada Alumni Association (RMCAA) is exceptionally proud to celebrate three members of our alumni community who have been recognized for their significant contributions to Canadian society, receiving King Charles III’s Coronation Medal earlier this year. This award honours Canadians for their meaningful impact in their community service, public service, or charitable activities.

Frédéric Chapleau graduated from RMC St-Jean in 1996. He was awarded the King’s Coronation medal because of his efforts within the defence industry to ensure that the service of veterans is honoured. Specifically, it is thanks to Frédéric’s leadership at Pratt & Whitney Canada, where he worked for 28 years, that Remembrance Day ceremonies were formally established at the company in 2018. He was also influential in creating a veteran support group to encourage camaraderie and recognition for former service members within the organization. Frédéric has recently started a new position with Synerco Capital Inc., but his legacy lives on at Pratt & Whitney Canada, embedded in the culture of the company and supported by those who continue to work there. Frédéric expressed his gratitude when receiving the medal but underlined that the achievement represents the collaboration and efforts of many employees.

Bryn Weadon graduated from RMC St-Jean in 1979. Since retiring from the Canadian Armed Forces as Rear-Admiral following a 35-year career in the Navy and with the Department of National Defence, Bryn has dedicated his expertise in financial management to charitable organizations. Bryn’s ongoing volunteer work in Treasury roles for True Patriot Love Foundation, the Navy League of Canada, the RMC Foundation, and now the RMCAA has been instrumental in making sure these organizations remain financially stable and able to focus on their mission of supporting service members, veterans, and their families. Of course, the RMCAA is fortunate to have Bryn as the current chair of our organization!

Alexander Landry graduated from RMC Kingston in 2016. He has since served as an Engineering Officer within the Royal Canadian Engineers, notably having returned from three years overseas in Turkey serving with NATO this past July 2024. He was awarded the King’s Coronation Medal as a result of his ongoing volunteer efforts dedicated to emergency management and community resilience. Notably, he is the Chair of St John Ambulance National Emergency Management Program Subcommittee and a member of the Disaster Recovery Institute of Canada Board of Directors. Throughout 2023 and 2024 he was instrumental in bringing together stakeholders across the country for dedicated events dealing with fostering community resilience and its impact both within and outside of DND. He has returned to the RMCAA Board of Directors this past Fall and looks forward to continued engagement over the years to come within the RMC alumni community!

L’Association des anciens étudiants et anciennes étudiantes des Collèges militaires royaux (CMR) du Canada est particulièrement fière de trois de ses membres qui ont reçu plus tôt cette année la Médaille du couronnement du roi Charles III pour leur importante contribution à la société canadienne. Cette distinction est décernée à des personnes ayant apporté une contribution importante au Canada dans le cadre de leurs activités communautaires, de service public ou de bienfaisance.

Frédéric Chapleau a obtenu son diplôme du CMR Saint-Jean en 1996. Il a reçu la Médaille du couronnement du roi Charles III en raison de ses efforts au sein de l’industrie militaire pour s’assurer que le service des anciens combattants est honoré. Plus précisément, c’est grâce à Frédéric que des cérémonies du jour du Souvenir sont organisées depuis 2018 à Pratt & Whitney Canada, où il a travaillé pendant 28 ans. Il a également joué un rôle important dans la création d’un groupe de soutien aux anciens combattants afin d’encourager la camaraderie et la reconnaissance des anciens membres des forces armées au sein de l’organisation. Ayant récemment commencé un nouvel emploi chez Synerco Capital inc., Frédéric lègue à ses anciens collègues un héritage qui restera ancré dans la culture de Pratt & Whitney Canada. Frédéric a exprimé sa gratitude lorsqu’il a reçu la médaille, mais il a souligné que cette marque de distinction est le fruit de la collaboration et des efforts de nombreux employés.

Bryn Weadon a obtenu son diplôme du CMR Saint-Jean en 1979. Depuis qu’il a pris sa retraite des Forces armées canadiennes à titre de contre-amiral après 35 ans de carrière dans la Marine et au ministère de la Défense nationale, Bryn a mis à profit ses compétences en gestion financière pour le compte d’organismes de bienfaisance. Le travail bénévole continu de Bryn auprès de la Fondation Les Fleurons glorieux, de la Ligue navale du Canada, de la Fondation des CMR et maintenant de l’Association des ancien(ne)s des CMR a été déterminant pour assurer la stabilité financière de ces organisations et ainsi leur permettre de se concentrer sur leur mission qui consiste à soutenir les militaires, les anciens combattants et leurs familles. Bien entendu, l’Association des ancien(ne)s des CMR a la chance d’avoir Bryn comme président actuel!

Alexander Landry est diplômé du CMR Kingston en 2016. Il a depuis servi comme officier du génie au sein du Génie royal canadien, notamment après son retour de trois années en Turquie au sein de l’OTAN en juillet dernier. Il a reçu la Médaille du couronnement du roi en raison de ses efforts bénévoles continus consacrés à la gestion des urgences et à la résilience communautaire. Il est notamment président du sous-comité du programme national de gestion des urgences de l’Ambulance Saint-Jean et membre du conseil d’administration de l’Institut canadien de reprise après sinistre. Tout au long de 2023 et 2024, il a joué un rôle déterminant en réunissant des intervenants de tout le pays pour des événements dédiés traitant de la promotion de la résilience communautaire et de son impact, tant au sein qu’à l’extérieur du MDN. Il est de retour au conseil d’administration du RMCAA l’automne dernier et a hâte de poursuivre son engagement au cours des années à venir au sein de la communauté des anciens du CMR !

L’Association des ancien(ne)s des CMR félicite Bryn,  Frédéric et Alexander pour cet honneur bien mérité et se réjouit du dévouement de ses ancien(ne)s à l’égard des militaires canadiens et du Canada.
