Retirements

12536 Robert G. Foster (RMC 1980) will retire from the Canadian Forces on 7 Sep 2009 after 33 plus years of loyal and dedicated service. Col foster enrolled in the Canadian Forces on 9 aug 1976. During his career, Col Foster completed an undergraduate mechanical engineering degree at RMC, a master of applied science (aerospace) degree at University of Toronto, and Canadian Forces staff college in Toronto. Robert, his wife Sandra, and their children Stephanie and Steven will remain in the Ottawa area as Col Foster has accepted a class b position as the deputy aere occupational advisor. An informal luncheon will occur on Tuesday, 7 July 2009 at Vittoria Trattoria, and an official retirement ceremony will be held at 400 Cumberland street on Friday 10 July 2009.

11065  Robert F Drummond (RRMC RMC 1976) is retiring from the Canadian Forces on 24 August 2009, with 37 years of loyal and dedicated service to the CF and AERE Branch. Col Drummond entered Royal Roads Military College, Victoria British Columbia, in August 1972 and graduated in 1976 from the Royal Military College, Kingston, with a Bachelor Degree in Engineering and Management. Col Drummond was promoted to his current rank in 1998 and was appointed Director of Recruiting, Education and Training. In May, 1999, Col Drummond returned to the Maritime Helicopter Project as the Deputy Project Manager and in December, 2001, he was appointed Special Assistant to the Vice Chief of Defence Staff. In July 2004 he was appointed Director Air Staff Coordination after having completed the National Security Studies Course. Since June 2005, Col Drummond has managed the Medium-to Heavy-Lift Helicopter project. During 2008/2009, he also managed the acquisition of six CH-147 Chinook helicopters for employment with Canada’s Joint Task Force – Afghanistan Air Wing. Col Drummond is planning in staying in the Ottawa region with his wife Nicole Drummond and two sons, John and James.

14498 Kirk J. Shaw (RMC 1984) will retire on 5 July 2009 after 29 exciting and rewarding years of service to the Canadian Forces and Air Force. Colonel Shaw joined the Canadian Forces in 1980 from Baden Senior High School in Germany, and attended the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario, graduating with a Mechanical Engineering degree in 1984. He also attained a Master of Business administration degree from Athabasca University in 2008. Col Shaw attended the Canadian Forces Command and Staff College in Toronto, Ontario in 1999, and upon graduation was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in June 2000. Col Shaw then returned to Greenwood, NS, in July 2000 where he served as the Commanding Officer for 14 Air Maintenance Squadron until July 2002. It was during this period that the Squadron successfully deployed and operated two Aurora’s in the Arabian Gulf Region with the US-led coalition for the campaign against terrorism. From July 2002 to July 2005, he served as the Commanding Officer for the Aerospace and Telecommunications Engineering Support Squadron (ATESS) in Trenton, Ont. On promotion to Colonel in August 2005, Col Shaw was appointed Project Manager Air Mobility Projects at NDHQ, Ottawa where he worked on three major projects: Fixed Wing Search and Rescue, Strategic Air-to-Air Refuelling and Airlift Capability Project – Tactical (C130J Hercules acquisition). He and his wife Jo-Ann, along with their five children (Kegan, Kaylie, Brandon, Jonathan and Madison), plan to remain in Ottawa where he has accepted a public service position with DGAEPM as Director Technical Airworthiness and Engineering Support (DTAES).

10262 Mr Manfred (Fred) M.K. Lottes (RRMC RMC 1974) will be retiring from the public service on Monday 29 June 2009 after thirty-eight plus years of dedicated service to DND. Fred’s DND career began in August 1970 at RRMC (Aug 70 – Aug 72) and he finished his schooling at RMC (Aug 72 – May 74). After a tour with 435 Squadron, Edmonton (May 74 – Jul 77) and a brief tour at QETE (Jul 77 – Dec 78) Fred took his retirement from the CF to remain with QETE and lead the Flight Safety Group as QETE 2-2 (Jul 77 – Dec 2005) and finally as acting Section Head of the Mechanical and Materials Group QETE 2 (Jan 06 – Present).
