Arctic Expedition 2013

By: OCdt Matthew Howse, 26508

The RMCC Expedition Club is gearing up for an amazing experience in the Arctic from August 12th to 23rd. The 2013 Arctic Expedition team comprised of OCdt Matt Howes (OPI, 26508), NCdt Victoria Reeves (26450), OCdt Andrew Ernst (26068), OCdt David Rybak (26609), OCdt Vincent Sauvé (26714), OCdt Alexandre Kingsbury (26316), NCdt Nithya Aithal (26859) and OCdt Riley Perrior (26240) will be spending eleven days in Nunavut’s Sirmilik National Park.

For the duration that the team is trekking through the park, they will be carrying all food and fuel with them. Their water resources will be replenished from the numerous glacial rivers. The trek will take seven days in total, giving two days for travel and another two should the trek take longer.

While on this expedition, the team will encounter many leadership challenges such as maintaining strict camp discipline of food and hygiene products, maintaining a constant wildlife sentry, and various physical challenges such as river-crossings. Planning for this expedition begun in January immediately after the team consisting of eight officer cadets had been announced.

The Arctic Expedition Team and Expedition Club as a whole would like to thank the RMC Foundation for their generous contribution towards this expedition. Their commitment to the clubs at RMC is a key contributor to providing such once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Stay tuned for an update on our experience upon our return!
