Thoughts from RMC Class of 1978 Secretary, Dale J. Robertson, in part as presented to the roughly 130 that attended this year’s Reunion Weekend when the Class of 1978 was inducted into the Old Brigade
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Thanks as always to the many of you who devoted a lot of time to make our reunion weekend possible. Thanks specifically to our wives and sweethearts who suffer and endure the ups and downs of being with someone who had a past at a Canadian Military College and / or a career in the Armed Forces. You are appreciated.
Thank you all for coming to our reunion. We went through difficult times at RMC, and it made us stronger. Now we get to look back and rationalize our suffering and it’s easy. We got to know each other and learned about each other’s strengths and weaknesses, which were many, but particularly the strengths, which covered almost everything.
What a class full of successes we were and are. From that we have benefitted so very much in our lives both at the Colleges and afterwards. We provide each other with kindness and generosity that comes in many forms. While at school we formed bonds that are still so strong that our brotherhood remains intact, even 50 years after we first met and 46 years since we left the Colleges. Wow, that’s something! We all know that we can call up anyone in our class and ask a favour without hesitation, knowing that help will be there from someone.
Even better, the degree of success that we see within not only our own class but within the fold of all ex-cadets is remarkable, so we have a lot of expertise immediately available. That we should all be here, after all this time, gathering and enjoying each other’s company as though we were still in 4th year is a testament. We, as the Class of 1978, are not unique in our cohesiveness, but we are definitely strong in this department and it’s likely to only get better.
We have a lot of living yet to do so we can use those bonds and friendships will enhance our lives even more if we take advantage of the fantastic resource now available to us all.
For those of you reading this who might be organizing a reunion feel free to contact me for a little guidance. dale@eei.ca
