Le 18 avril dernier, les trois escadrons de l’escadre des élèves-officiers du Collège militaire royal de Saint-Jean (CMR Saint-Jean) se sont affrontés lors de la fameuse compétition annuelle de marche forcée. Pour cet évènement bien spécial, Mère Nature s’est assurée d’augmenter le niveau de difficulté en gardant les élof bien mouillés.

Après des mois d’entraînement, sous un ciel gris et des averses abondantes, les élof ont dû parcourir une distance de 10 kilomètres le long de la rivière Richelieu munis de leur équipement complet. Chaque escadron devait parcourir le trajet le plus rapidement possible, le gagnant étant celui qui allait réaliser le meilleur chrono. Le résultat de cette marche allait permettre au gagnant d’accumuler des points en vue de l’obtention du trophée Général Sir Richard Turner V.C., qui sera remis au meilleur escadron à la fin de l’année. Chaque escadron avait un grand désir de gagner, et la compétition a été féroce, mais au final, l’Escadron Iberville est sorti grand gagnant de la marche forcée 2010, suivi de très près par l’Escadron Tracy et finalement par l’Escadron Richelieu.

Au-delà du résultat de la compétition, avec tout l’effort qu’ont mis les élof, tous sont fiers d’avoir accompli ce grand défi. La marche annuelle du CMR Saint-Jean est un évènement où chaque participant doit donner son maximum et où l’entraide est primordial. Pour ce qui est des élof qui seront de retour au Collège l’an prochain, ils sont probablement déjà excités à l’idée de recommencer la marche en 2011. Que le meilleur gagne!

A DRENCHED TEN KILOMETERS

On April 18, the three squadrons of the Cadet Wing at the Royal Military College Saint-Jean (RMC Saint-Jean) rivalled against each other during the famous Annual Forced March Competition. To mark this special event, Mother Nature decided to increase the level of difficulty by ensuring that the officer cadets remained drenched throughout the event.

After months of training, under grey skies and torrential downpours, the officer cadets equipped with rucksacks had to walk a distance of 10 kilometres along the Richelieu River. Because this was a timed event, each squadron had to complete the march as quickly as possible. The results will count toward the points accumulated by each squadron for the General Sir Richard Turner V.C. Trophy, an award presented to the best squadron at the end of the year. All squadrons were strongly committed to winning the forced march competition, but in the end, Iberville Squadron was victorious, followed closely by Tracy Squadron and finally Richelieu Squadron.

Despite the final outcome of the competition, all the officer cadets were rightfully proud of their efforts to compete in this challenging event. The RMC Saint-Jean Annual Forced March Competition is an event during which each participant must give their best and teamwork is critical to the success of the team. Those officer cadets who will return to the college next year are probably excited about the idea of participating in the march all over again in 2011. May the best team win!
