RMC Trailblazers: A Conversation with 20714 Lieutenant Colonel Steven Boychyn CD about service and leadership


The Trailblazer Podcast celebrates the accomplishments and milestones of notable alumni of Canada’s Royal Military Colleges and provides a platform for them to share their stories and contribute to building future leaders for Canada and the world.

Late last year, we sat down with Steven Boychyn  who graduated from the Royal Military College Kingston in 1997 and has had a distinguished and varied career, characterized by service and leadership.

It is evident, that for Boychyn, these two things are inextricably linked and part of his DNA.  Even from a young age, Boychyn was motivated by a desire to contribute. It is what saw him working as a leader in Scouts even before he had reached an age when he could officially do so. It is also what drew him to RMC in the first place.


Women’s Mentoring Network of Canada – 15946 Jill Carleton

Episode 55 features Jill Carleton. Jill attended Royal Military College in Kingston and graduated in 1987 with a BA in Honours Economics & Commerce. Jill was commissioned as a Naval Logistics officer upon graduation. Jill served aboard HMCS Preserver and HMCS Terra Nova. Upon her retirement from the regular force, Jill joined the Public Service and continued to serve. She worked in multiple organizations from Pension Plan to CHFA Strategic Planning. In retirement Jill is still an active volunteer in multiple organizations. Tune in to hear some of her wisdom from across her experience.

Smart Women, Smart Power – 21893 Sarah Heer, RMC 2001 – The Will of Ukrainian Soliders

Host Kathleen McInnis sat down with Colonel Sarah Heer, the special advisor to the Commander of the Canadian Army, and a Peace With Women Fellow, at the 2023 Halifax International Security Forum. The pair discussed her experience commanding Operation Unifier in September 2020, where, alongside Canadian soldiers, she helped train Ukrainian soldiers. Additionally, she discussed the lessons she learned from her Ukrainian counterparts.
