MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT – The Colonel Karen Ritchie Memorial Golf Tournament, hosted by WiDS, was held at the Hylands Golf Club in Ottawa. All participants enjoyed an afternoon of golf followed by dinner and a silent auction. Special thanks go to DEW Engineering and Laurie St. Louis for their help in organizing the tournament. All proceeds from the golf tournament will go towards the WiDS Memorial Scholarship Fund.

This year’s tournament honoured Colonel Karen Ritchie who succumbed to injuries resulting from a tragic car accident in 2008. Col Ritchie was in the first class of 32 women accepted to RMC in 1980 when she was only 17. She graduated from RMC with a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering and later continued her education by earning a Masters degree in Integrated Logistics Support at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She rose rapidly through the officer ranks to the position of Colonel. She also served as Deputy Chair of the Committee on Women in the NATO Forces. At the time of her death she was the Commander of 5 Area Support Group.

A life-long supporter of the Girl Guide movement and a proud member of Girl Guides of Canada, Colonel Ritchie was a dynamic leader and a great role model to women serving in the Canadian Forces.
