– PROCLAMATION –

VETERANS’ WEEK

November 5-11, 2007

 

WHEREAS Canada’s Veterans’ Week will be held from November 5 to 11, 2007;

AND WHEREAS Canada’s Veterans’ Week provides an opportunity to increase awareness of the contributions of past and current Canadian Forces Veterans, who served and fought and died for Canada;

AND WHEREAS this year has a special significance under the theme “Lest We Forget” with important landmark anniversaries, the 90th Anniversary of the Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele battles, and the 65th Anniversary of the Dieppe raid;

AND WHEREAS a dreadful toll has been paid for the peace and freedom we enjoy here in Canada. Since Confederation, approximately two million Canadians have served overseas with the armed forces and more than 110,000 gave their lives;

AND WHEREAS all Canadians, old and new, can join together in reaffirming their respect for all Veterans of past and current conflicts and missions, to mark their sacrifice;

THEREFORE I, Mayor Harvey Rosen, do hereby proclaim the week of November 5-11, 2007 as “Canada’s Veterans’ Week” in the City of Kingston.

The 2007 Leadership Dinner
“Celebrating Canada’s Global Military Contributions”

The Toronto Branch of the Royal Military Colleges Club of Canada is pleased to host the 2007 Leadership Dinner on Friday 23 November 2007 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in downtown Toronto. The dinner is a black tie affair and will follow a military mess dinner format. The special guest speaker for the evening will be General Rick Hillier, the Chief of Defence Staff. The evening’s events will also feature the presentation of the Air Commodore Leonard Birchall Leadership Award to a deserving Canadian, Major Danny McLeod.
