From his early aspirations as a young immigrant to his current role shaping future leaders, Colonel Chung Wong’s journey reflects a deep commitment to service, leadership, and inclusion within the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

Arriving in Montreal at the age of nine, Col Wong’s path to military service was grounded in a strong desire to give back to the country that welcomed his family. Drawn to the military while still in high school, he discovered the Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP) an opportunity that would set the foundation for both his academic and professional future.

A proud graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) in 2004, Col Wong recalls a positive and respectful environment during his time as an officer cadet, even at a time when Asian representation in the CAF was limited. His experience reinforced a belief that opportunity and success are grounded in merit, dedication, and leadership.

Today, as Deputy Commandant at RMC Kingston, Col Wong plays a key role in developing the next generation of CAF leaders through ROTP. In many ways, his current position brings his journey full circle—supporting cadets as they pursue the same path that shaped his own career.

Beyond his leadership role, Col Wong is a champion for diversity and inclusion within the Defence Team. As the military Champion for the Defence Team Canadian Asian Network (DTCAN), established in 2025, he works to amplify the voices of Asian Canadian members and foster a more inclusive culture across the CAF.

Recognized for his service with an appointment to the Order of Military Merit in 2024, Col Wong continues to exemplify the values of leadership, perseverance, and service. His message is clear: success in the CAF is attainable for all who are willing to work hard and lead with integrity.

Through his career and ongoing contributions, Col Wong not only represents the strength of the RMC alumni community but also helps shape a more inclusive and representative future for the Canadian Armed Forces.
