16855 Brigadier General Sean Friday joined the Canadian Forces in 1985 and graduated from the Royal Military College in 1989. Following Air Navigator wings training, early operational postings involved advanced tactical air mobility missions and air-to-air refuelling missions around the globe with 429 Transport Squadron and with 435 Transport and Rescue Squadron.

Brigadier General Friday has amassed 3500 hours flying missions around the world, including deployments during the Gulf War, famine relief operations in Ethiopia and Somalia, tactical mobility operations in three rotations to Operation Airbridge (Bosnia-Herzegovina), air-to-air refuelling in Operation Determination (Kuwait) and, most recently, as part of Joint Task Force Afghanistan. In Canada, Brigadier General Friday has flown air-to-air refuelling operations protecting Canadian sovereign airspace, conducted air mobility operations from coast to coast and to the farthest reaches in the North, and led planning for Operation PODIUM (Vancouver 2010 Olympics) and Operation CADENCE (2010 G8 and G20 Summits). Brigadier General Friday has commanded 435 Transport and Rescue Squadron, Theatre Support Element – Camp Mirage, and 8 Wing Trenton. Staff appointments have included an exchange to the United States Air Force Personnel Centre in San Antonio, Texas; National Defence Headquarters positions in Human Resources Information Management, Aerospace Requirements, and Air Force Development; and in a joint capacity as Deputy Chief of Staff – Strategy and Plans at Canada Command. Brigadier General Friday is currently appointed to the position of Director General Air Readiness within RCAF HQ.

Brigadier General Friday is a graduate of the Belgian Cours Supérieur d’État-Major, the Air Force’s Aerospace Systems Course and the National Security Program. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Royal Military College and an Executive MBA from Queen’s University. He is an avid sports enthusiast, golfing and skiing whenever he can, running whenever he must and putting the puck in the net whenever providence smiles. He and his wife have two children.
