As many of you are now aware, Dr Harry Kowal, a retired Brigadier-General has been appointed as the 13th Principal of the Royal Military College of Canada. Dr Kowal will take over from me as Principal on 1 Aug 13. Dr Kowal has a unique professional and academic background which is perfectly suited to his new role as Principal. He graduated from the RMCC in 1984, and went on to become an assistant professor of Mechanical Engineering at the College and a Division Commander in the Training Wing. Dr Kowal is also the recipient of three Masters Degrees in Aerospace Engineering, Defence Studies and Strategic Studies and holds a PhD from the University of Tennessee Space Institute. He has served in a variety of academic, command and staff appointments, including but not limited to Commandant of the School of Aerospace Engineering and Technology at Canadian Forces Base Borden. Prior to his appointment as Principal, he was appointed Director General Military Careers at National Defence Headquarters, in Ottawa.

Vous êtes tous plus ou moins au courant que M. Harry Kowal (Ph.D), brigadier –général à la retraite, a été nommé en tant 13e recteur du Collège militaire royal du Canada. M. Kowal (Ph.D) me succèdera, à partir du 1er août 2013, au poste de recteur. M. Kowal détient un bagage professionnel et universitaire unique qui est parfaitement adapté à son nouveau rôle. C’est un diplômé du CMR où il a enseigné, en tant que professeur adjoint au sein du corps professoral du département de génie mécanique, et où il a rempli les fonctions de commandant d’escadron, puis de commandant de division. M. Kowal a aussi à son actif trois maîtrises : la première en génie aérospatial, la deuxième en études de la défense nationale et la troisième en études stratégiques. Tout au long de sa carrière, il a été nommé à divers postes académiques et à diverses positions de commandement et d’état-major y compris, en autre, le commandement de l’École de technologie et du génie aérospatial des Forces canadiennes de Borden. Avant sa nomination, en tant que recteur, il a été nommé Directeur général carrières militaires au quartier général de la défense nationale à Ottawa.
