6857 David Morris CMR 1966
It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of David (Dave) R. Morris on September 12, 2026, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Victoria, BC in 1945 to a naval family, Dave lived in several places in Canada during his youth. As a young lad, he joined the work world early, working as a paperboy in Halifax. After high school graduation, he was then accepted at Collège Militaire Royal de Saint-Jean (CMR Saint-Jean) as their youngest ever officer cadet at the time, learning the importance of respect, discipline, and ethics, which he applied throughout his life to his work and family. He later moved to Ottawa to pursue his Diploma of Technology in Electronic Technology at Algonquin College, while also working as a lock operator on the Rideau Canal.
After receiving his post-secondary diploma, his interest in technology led him into the telecommunications field, where he excelled throughout his career. As a telecommunications technologist with a talent for bringing communication to remote areas, his project work took him all over Canada and the world, including exotic locations such as Africa, Iran, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the Philippines, Oman, and Papua New Guinea. Upon retirement, he returned to Canada to enjoy his golden years, now having the time to relax, golf, solve the complicated crossword puzzles he so loved, and read to his heart’s content.
On the personal side, Dave was a gentleman, a mentor, and a great listener who always found time to help others. While quiet and contemplative by nature, he was also a masterful storyteller who could entertain others for hours with tales from his travels. Dave was a wonderful man with a supportive, steady presence who was always there if you needed him. He lived his life devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren and made all family gatherings warm and welcoming.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Hélène, his two adult children, two adult grandchildren, and a large circle of extended family and friends.
