The Juno Beach Centre is a museum and cultural centre, which opened at Courseulles-sur-Mer, France on June 6, 2003. The Juno Beach Centre’s “Find Your Brick” section allows the viewer a virtual look at the location of a brick on the Juno Beach Centre’s Brick Memorial Kiosks in Normandy, France.

Among ex-cadets listed on the Juno Beach Centre’s Brick Memorial:

  • 1385 Capt George Kenneth Crowe, Royal Canadian Engineers, died on Jun 2, 1940 at 39 years of age.
  • 2081 Lt Col Ralph Marston Crowe, Royal Canadian Regiment, died leading the Sicile advance on Jul 24, 1943 at 31 years of age.

 

2081 Lt Col Ralph Marston Crowe was the son of Charles Robert and Edith Bowden Crowe. He was the husband of Rosalind Crowe (nee Brewin), of Montreal, Quebec. Several relatives graduated from RMC: 2831 Cameron Crowe; 2872 Charles Crowe; 1542 Ernest Watson Crowe; and 1385 George Kenneth Crowe.

He served with the Royal Canadian Regiment, RCIC. He took over command of the 1st Division a few months before sailing from Britain for the Sicile invasion. He died leading the Sicile advance on Jul 24, 1943 at 31 years of age.

He was buried in the Agira Canadian War Cemetery in Sicily, Italy B, A, 130.

2081 Lt Col Ralph Marston Crowe is commemorated by Crowe Lake in the Northwest Territories. Lat 612000 Long 1042200.

1888 Lt Col John Rupert Wilson Turner Bessonette, the commander of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, who was the first senior officer to be killed in action in France. He was 37.

He was hit by an 83mm shell on June 17 while running to the assistance of a fellow officer, Capt. Harry Knight Eaton, fatally injured by a shell a moment before.

He served with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. He died on June 17, 1944 at 37 years of age. He was buried in the Beny-Sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery in Calvados, France IV. B. 5.
