Holiday Greeting from Commandant
What a year it has been at the Royal Military College of Canada! Grâce à la générosité et au travail remarquable de tous et chacun au sein de notre équipe, nous avons atteint plusieurs grands succès au cours de l’année 2015 !
Our most important success of course was the achievement of our primary mission of generating fit, bilingual and well-educated leaders for the Canadian Armed Forces. Congratulations once again to the 225 new 2Lts and A/SLts we commissioned over the year.
The RMCC team, together with our colleagues at RMCSJ and CFC, can also take great pride in having enabled 511 bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral graduates in 2015. Our athletics efforts saw great achievements across the board, including our winningest season ever for Men’s Rugby, superb results by our Fencing and Taekwondo teams, a top-notch hosting of the Canadian Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association’s Team Racing National Regatta, a very memorable jersey retirement for Steve Molaski’s #23, and an overall increase in the number of Cadets joining the 450 Club.
Les chefs et membres de l’escadre d’entrainement, du département des services de soutien, du département des sports et de l’escadre du chef d’état-major continuent leur travail exemplaire. De plus, la faculté de l’escadre des études, sous le leadership extraordinaire de notre Recteur Harry Kowal produisent une qualité de recherche et d’éducation hors-pairs. The entire College Team can justifiably look back upon 2015 with pride and I am tremendously thankful for their tireless commitment to our many efforts.
The tragic events of May 2015 also shook us all deeply. OCdt Sage Fanstone and his loved ones will always be held close to our hearts here at RMCC and across the broader RMC family.
J’aimerais saluer l’équipe e-Veritas, et plus particulièrement Bill et Rolande Oliver, pour vos efforts incroyable pour aider à maintenir les liens serrés entre tous ceux qui tiennent à cœur les collèges militaires royaux. I would also like to extend my most sincere thanks to my cabinet and the tremendous efforts of Nathalie, Lee and Mario, without whom the lights around the College would surely dim!
While there is much to celebrate for 2015, 2016 will bring a new slate of challenges. The Class of 2016 will take their final steps towards graduation in lock step with CPO1 Keith Davidson, who also marches towards completion of 4 outstanding years at RMCC as the College CWO. We will continue our recapitalization of our historic infrastructure, strengthen our second language and athletics programs (with tremendously enabling support from our outstanding Foundation and Club), and continue to deliver our Operation HONOUR action plan to eliminate sexual misconduct and harassment of all forms. Also, early in 2016 we will roll out a strategic priorities roadmap introducing new efforts for enabling student success and wellness, advancing learning innovation, delivering comprehensive Resilience education and training, and delivering an exciting new program of executive and professional education. De plus, il est fort probable que les célébrations du 140ieme anniversaire du collège et la deuxième édition de Bruciepalooza vont sans doute créer de très bons souvenirs.
To the students, staff and faculty of RMCC and their families, to friends of RMCC and to our cherished alumni, Anne-Lucie and I extend to you our most sincere wishes for a wonderful holiday season, la santé, le succès et le bonheur pour vous et vos proches en 2016.

Principal’s Holiday Wishes
When I look back on 2015, I am flooded with great memories. It is hard to believe another year has gone by so fast, but it is simply amazing all that has been accomplished.
Our three convocation ceremonies saw the granting of over 500 undergraduate and graduate degrees as well as six new Honorary Doctorates. Feedback from our graduates continues to highlight the tremendous impact our faculty and staff have made on them and I so applaud you for teaching and engaging our students with enthusiasm, for challenging them to grow, for showing your concern and being available, for encouraging them to express their views, for treating them with respect and for maintaining your expertise in your field. You have all made a difference…congratulations, well done and keep up the great work!
This past year, it was a sincere privilege for me to announce 42 well-deserved promotions in our civilian faculty and 14 others in our military faculty. I was also very pleased to see the continuation of our strategic planning session, the successful completion of our Quality Audit as well as the ongoing Quality Assurance work for many of our programmes. All of what we do is enabled by great people working hard to support our students, our research, our institution and, of course, each other. I wish to thank all the members of the Academic Wing for all you do on a daily basis…we have a great team!
I would also like to say how grateful we are to have the support of alumni, the RMC Club of Canada and the RMC Foundation. I would like to thank you for what you do in keeping the greater RMC community connected and supporting the enhancement of excellence in the RMC experience.
This past year, Dr. Laura Robinson has stepped up to be the Interim Dean of Arts. I am very proud Dr. Robinson has been recognized for her leadership in this way. She is only the second female Dean RMC has ever had and is serving as a true role model for others to follow. Well done Laura!
This past year, we also welcomed Col Karl Michaud (ret) as the new Registrar and his transition has been seamless.
In the upcoming New Year, the Dean of Engineering, Dr. Derrick Bouchard, and the Dean of Continuing Studies, Dr. Pierre Roberge, are going on sabbatical and it is with great pleasure that I welcome Dr. Billy Allan as the Interim Dean of Engineering and Dr. Jim Denford as the Interim Dean of Continuing Studies. I look forward to working directly with you both.
As we close another calendar year, I would like to wish each and every one connected in some way or another to the Royal Military College of Canada a very festive season and my very best wishes for a safe and happy holidays!

Quand je me retourne sur l’année 2015, je suis inondé de merveilleux souvenirs. Il est difficile de croire qu’une autre année a passé si vite, mais est tout simplement incroyable tout ce qui a été accompli.
Nos trois cérémonies de collation des grades ont vu l’octroi de plus de 500 diplômes du premier et deuxième cycle ainsi que six nouveaux doctorats honorifiques. Les réactions de nos diplômés continuent de souligner l’impact énorme que notre corps professoral et le personnel ont eu sur eux et je vous applaudis pour l’enseignement et l’engagement que vous démontrez envers nos étudiants avec tant d’enthousiasme ; pour pousser nos étudiants à s’épanouir ; pour montrer votre préoccupation et être toujours disponible ; pour les encourager à exprimer leurs opinions, les traiter avec respect et pour le maintien de votre expertise dans votre domaine. Vous avez tous fait une différence…félicitations, bravo et continuez votre excellent travail !
L’année dernière, ce fut un privilège sincère pour moi d’annoncer 42 promotions bien méritées dans notre faculté civile et 14 autres dans notre faculté militaire. Je suis également très heureux de voir la poursuite de notre séance de planification stratégique, la réussite de notre vérification de la qualité ainsi que le travail d’assurance de la qualité présentement en cours pour beaucoup de nos programmes. Tout ce que nous faisons est grâce à des gens formidables, qui travaillent très forts pour soutenir nos étudiants, notre recherche, notre institution et, bien sûr, l’un et l’autre. Je tiens à remercier tous les membres de l’escadre académique pour tout ce que vous faites sur une base quotidienne…nous avons une excellente équipe !
Je voudrais également exprimer notre reconnaissance envers le soutien des anciens élèves, le Club des CMR du Canada et la Fondation du CMR. Je voudrais vous remercier pour ce que vous faites pour garder la grande communauté du CMR liée et appuyer le renforcement de l’excellence dans l’expérience qui est le CMR.
Au cours de la dernière année, Mme. Laura Robinson, PhD, a relevé le défi et a accepté le poste de doyenne intérimaire de la faculté des Arts. Je suis très fier que Mme. Robinson a été reconnu pour son leadership. Elle et la deuxième femme doyenne dans l’histoire du CMR et elle est un véritable modèle pour les autres à suivre. Bravo Laura !
L’année passée, on a également souhaiter la bienvenue à col Karl Michaud (ret) comme secrétaire générale et, comme prévu, il a fait une intégration parfaite.
Au nouvel an, le doyen de génie, M. Derrick Bouchard, PhD, et le doyen des études permanentes, M. Pierre Roberge, PhD, quitteront en congé sabbatique et c’est avec grand plaisir que je souhaite la bienvenue à M. Billy Allan, PhD, comme doyen intérimaire de génie et M. Jim Denford, PhD, comme doyen intérimaire des études permanentes. J’ai bien hâte de travailler directement avec vous deux.
Comme nous fermons une autre année au calendrier, je voudrais souhaiter à tous et à chacun, lié au CMR, une saison très festive et mes meilleurs vœux pour des vacances en toute sécurité !
