This Tuesday marked one of the final practices leading to the Graduation Parade. With three days to go until the major spectacle, the Cadet Wing has been drilling for the past week through rain and shine.

Thursday’s Final Morning Parade

This past Thursday was RMC’s final morning parade which saw the recognition of new members to the 450 club, presentation of various awards, and closing speeches by the CWTO, CWC and DCdt. Notably, the Sandhurst MVP award was presented to 25727 OCdt (II) Brandon Philp.

Continuing the “Old 18” Photo Tradition

Top 4 and CSLs have kept alive the tradition of recreating the iconic “Old 18” (the first cadets to attend RMC) photograph in front the Stone Frigate. Over the years, these poses have taken on a silly version. Below are comparisons. Both photos on the left are from 2011. The top right photo is the original Old 18 pose, and the bottom right photo is a silly version on display in the Stone Frigate’s Gunroom.

Key Members of the Sandhurst Team Recognized
OCdt Brandon Philp was presented the Sandhurst Team MVP award by Sandhurst coach Capt Kevin Schamuhn (photo Thursday first row, second on the left) . As a second year cadet OCdt Philp stepped up as the running team captain due to injuries of the team captain and 2IC. Under his command the team achieved a near flawless finish of the competition portion of the event. Due to weighting of the range portion of the event it is hard to recognize how extremely well the team did in the main competition. This award is presented yearly due to the generous donation of the award by the First Canadian Parachute Battalion Association.
OCdt Charles Gallant (Sandhurst Team Captain) and Mr Stephane Robert (Sandhurst Team Physical Fitness Coach) were presented with Commandant’s Commendations by Cmdre W.S. Truelove due to their outstanding service, dedication, leadership, and mentorship (commendations attached).
This level of excellence is an example of what the Sandhurst Competition does to develop RMC cadets and the ripple effect that will be passed on to other cadets at the college and the soldiers that will eventually be under their command. This high level of training has been made possible by the generous ongoing donations by the Class of 64.
This past Mon the class of 64 hosted this years team at the cadet mess and got into the details of how the competition went. The Sandhurst Team, Coaches, and staff of the Royal Military College of Canada are very thankful to the class of 64 for their support and will be working very hard to reclaim the sword next year.
