Who is He?
Raised on a small farm on the outskirts of Medicine Hat in the 1920-30s as the eldest of four boys;
Has been a teacher his entire life;
His first teaching job was teaching his siblings chores on the farm so he could move on to more demanding ones;
At the outbreak of WWII he left the farm to serve his country, which he did with distinction; rising from the rank of private to captain;
He was the first Canadian to graduate from The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS);
He was awarded the Military Cross for valour in WW II;
During part of the 1950s he served with the International Commission for Supervision and Control of the emerging nations of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia;
He arrived at RMC in 1960 and remained on staff until 1971;
Moved on to a position with the National Hockey League (NHL) following his military career;
He has led more than a dozen tours to the battlefield of Europe;
Granted an Honourary Doctor of Military Science by the Senate of the Royal Military College of Canada;
He was awarded the Commodore Lenard Birchell Award for Leadership by the Royal Military Club of Canada.
