RMCC Taekwondo

Thweekend of September 5-6, 2013 was a great weekend for the RMCC Taekwondo team. With only two real sparring practices so far this year the team did exceptionally well at the Jung Ko tournament and Ontario provincial team trials. OCdt Emilie Aumont (team captain) 1st in black belt high performance sparring, NCdt Thomas Song 1st in black belt high performance sparring, NCdt Ann Lee 1st in female blue belt sparring, OCdt Christophe Laforest Huot 1st in blue belt male sparring & 2nd in blue belt patterns, OCdt Jinsu Yang 2nd female blue belt sparring, OCdt Michael Moon 2nd blue belt patterns, OCdt Patrick Jireada 3rd green belt sparring, NCdt Adam McManus 3rd in black belt high performance sparring.

At the OTA team trails NCdt Ann Lee places a very close 3rd place in the black belt patterns, finishing 0.5 pts. out of 2nd place. ASlt Jason Song could not totally wear off the rust of the summer and lost a very close 1st match in men’s light weight sparring 8-9. All in all the very green team came away with four 1st place, three 2nd place, and three 3rd place and was awarded “Top team” in the 18-29 age category over the weekend.

RMC Men’s Soccer

The men’s varsity soccer team started their year with a solid pre-season, earning a draw Concordia 0-0, and trumping local rivals, Saint Lawrence College, 2-0. They continued their winning way into the regular season with a 1-0 road win against Trent University.

The Paladins dropped the next four in a row to Carleton, Nipissing, Laurentian and Ryerson despite carrying significant portions of the play. All of these games were decided in the last couple of minutes by a single goal. Next up was a rain out with the University of Toronto, the field was too saturated to allow the ball to roll and the game postponed until later in October. The reprieve seemed to help the men in Red and White as they earned a significant draw with cross town rivals Queens University, in front of a huge home crowd. This marked the first time in modern history that RMC was able to earn a point against Queens.

It’s been a promising campaign for the men’s soccer team, they continue to play for a spot in postseason determined to close out the schedule on a high note.
