March 13, 2024, marked the launch of the inaugural activity of the Resilience Plus program organized by the Ambassadors of the program on the RMC Saint-Jean campus, titled “Easter with Veterans”! Split into two parts, the primary objective of this activity was to stimulate character strengths such as creativity, teamwork, leadership, and gratitude among the Naval Officer Cadets (N/OCdts) of RMC Saint-Jean, by tasking them with designing Easter cards for veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). These cards were then distributed during a visit to the Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue hospital on April 2, 2024. This activity effectively brought together the N/OCdts with several external stakeholders, as part of the Resilience Plus Program.
Expectations for Creativity Night on March 13 were high, and the response from the campus community was remarkable. Even before the event began, we nearly reached the maximum capacity of the room. Our secondary objective, to foster exchanges, sharing, and collaboration among the N/OCdts, was fully realized. N/OCdts from different levels and squadrons were observed sitting together at the same table, exchanging ideas and collaborating, with no distinctions of rank or seniority acting as barriers. We were also privileged to have three veterans accompanied by their assistance dogs: Mr. Guy Riel with Jimmy, Mr. François Comeau with Chanel, and Ms. Marie-Noëlle Blanchet with Maze. The comforting presence of these adorable companions instantly broke the ice between the participants, and the kindness and openness of the veterans enriched the exchanges with the N/OCdts.
Additionally, we were honored to receive visits from Ms. Christine Normandin, Federal Member of Parliament for Saint-Jean, as well as Ms. Farah Cader, project manager at the Quebec Veterans Foundation, and Ms. Yvette Labrie from the Resource Center for Military Families Montreal. We also express our gratitude to Ms. Hélène Ladouceur, CEO of the RMC Saint-Jean Foundation, for her presence and support.
The evening was a resounding success, with approximately a hundred participants creating 104 cards, accounting for nearly a third of the N/OCdts of RMC Saint-Jean, far surpassing our initial expectations of 80 participants. We would like to extend particular congratulations to the Jolliet squadron, which contributed the most with the creation of 36 cards.
The visit on April 2, 2024, was an extremely enriching experience for the 20 RMC Saint-Jean N/OCdts who participated. From the outset, an authentic connection was established between the students and veterans, melting away any reservations and creating an undeniable bond between generations. Smiles radiated from every face, reflecting both the youth of our aspirations and the wisdom of lived experiences.
We had the privilege of discovering the human faces behind the veil of history, those whose sacrifices paved the way for our freedom. Each encounter was like a window open to the past, allowing us to grasp the extent of their commitment and dedication. We had the honor of expressing our gratitude to these often anonymous heroes by offering them the carefully prepared cards during the Creativity Evening on March 13. These simple gestures were our way of saying thank you for everything they did for us, for their country, and for generations to come.
By sharing these precious moments with those who shaped our history, we all learned much more than academic lessons. We gained a deeper understanding of the value of sacrifice, the power of camaraderie, and the importance of remembering and honoring those who gave their lives for us.
We would like to warmly thank the RMC Saint-Jean chain of command for their support of the Resilience Plus Program since winter 2020, as well as for allowing us time to personally discuss the program and our activities during a recent meeting. Their confidence in us motivated us and demonstrated to us that as N/OCdts of different levels, we can indeed have an impact and contribute to positive change within the CAF in a meaningful way. Le Programme Résilience Plus Célèbre Pâques avec les Vétérans des Forces Armées Canadiennes
Le 13 mars 2024 a marqué le lancement de la toute première activité du programme Résilience Plus organisée par les Ambasad.eurs.rices du programme sur le campus du CMR Saint-Jean « Pâques avec les Vétérans »! Articulée en deux volets, cette activité a pour objectif principal stimuler les forces de caractère telles que la créativité, le travail d’équipe, le leadership et la gratitude des Élèves Officiers et Aspirants de marine (Élof/Aspm) du CMR Saint-Jean, en les incitant à concevoir des cartes de Pâques pour les vétérans des Forces Armées Canadiennes (CAF). Ces cartes ont ensuite été distribuées lors d’une visite à l’hôpital Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue le 2 avril 2024. Cette activité a brillamment uni les Élof/Aspm avec plusieurs acteurs externes au collège, dans le cadre du Programme Résilience Plus.
Les attentes pour la Soirée Créativité du 13 mars étaient élevées, et la réponse de la communauté du campus a été remarquable.
Avant même le début de l’événement, nous avons presque atteint la capacité maximale de la salle. Notre objectif secondaire, favoriser les échanges, le partage et la collaboration entre les Élofs/Aspm, a été pleinement atteint. Nous avons observé des Élofs/Aspm de différents niveaux et de différents escadrons, assis à la même table, échangeant et collaborant, sans que les distinctions de rang ou d’ancienneté ne soient un obstacle. Nous avons également eu le privilège de compter parmi nous trois vétérans accompagnés de leurs chiens d’assistance : M. Guy Riel avec Jimmy, M. François Comeau avec Chanel et Mme Marie-Noëlle Blanchet avec Maze. La présence réconfortante de ces adorables compagnons a instantanément brisé la glace entre les participants, et la bienveillance ainsi que l’ouverture des vétérans ont enrichi les échanges avec les Élofs/Aspm.
Nous avons également eu l’honneur de recevoir la visite de Mme Christine Normandin, députée fédérale de Saint-Jean, ainsi que celle de Mme Farah Cader, chargée de projet à la Fondation québécoise des vétérans et Mme Yvette Labrie, du Centre de Ressources pour les Familles Militaires Montréal. Nous exprimons également notre gratitude envers Mme Hélène Ladouceur, PDG de la Fondation du CMR Saint-Jean, pour sa présence et son soutien.
La soirée a été un franc succès, avec environ une centaine de participants créant 104 cartes, soit près du tiers des Élofs/Aspm du CMR Saint-Jean, dépassant largement nos attentes initiales de 80 participants. Nous tenons à féliciter particulièrement l’escadron Jolliet, qui a contribué le plus, avec la création de 36 cartes.
La visite du 2 avril 2024 a été une expérience extrêmement enrichissante pour les 20 Élofs/Aspm du CMR Saint-Jean qui y ont participé. Dès les premiers instants, une connexion authentique s’est établie entre les étudiant.e.s et les vétérans, faisant fondre toute réserve et créant un lien indéniable entre les générations. Les sourires rayonnaient sur chaque visage, reflétant à la fois la jeunesse de nos aspirations et la sagesse des expériences vécues.
Nous avons eu le privilège de découvrir les visages humains derrière le voile de l’histoire, ceux dont les sacrifices ont pavé le chemin vers notre liberté. Chaque rencontre était comme une fenêtre ouverte sur le passé, nous permettant de saisir l’ampleur de leur engagement et de leur dévouement.
Nous avons eu le privilège d’exprimer notre gratitude envers ces héros souvent anonymes, en leur offrant les cartes préparées avec soin lors de la Soirée Créativité du 13 mars. Ces simples gestes étaient notre manière de leur dire merci pour tout ce qu’ils ont fait pour nous, pour leur pays, et pour les générations à venir.
En partageant ces moments précieux avec ceux qui ont forgé notre histoire, nous avons tous appris bien plus que des leçons académiques. Nous avons acquis une compréhension plus profonde de la valeur du sacrifice, de la force de la camaraderie et de l’importance de se souvenir et d’honorer ceux qui ont donné leur vie pour nous.
Nous tenons à remercier chaleureusement la chaîne de commandement du CMR Saint-Jean pour son soutien au Programme Résilience Plus depuis l’hiver 2020, ainsi que pour nous avoir accordé du temps pour discuter personnellement du programme et de nos activités lors d’une rencontre récente. Leur confiance en nous nous a motivés et nous a démontré qu’en tant qu’Élofs/Aspm de différents niveaux, nous pouvons effectivement avoir un impact et contribuer au changement positif au sein des FAC de manière significative. Enfin, nous tenons à exprimer notre reconnaissance envers le Chapitre Fort Saint-Jean et l’Association des Anciens des CMC pour leur soutien continu au programme Résilience Plus.
