Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference Pays Visit to RMCC

RMCC was honoured to host a group of high potential individuals from across Canada last week when The Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference paid a visit to the peninsula.
The GGCLC was created to broaden the perspectives of future leaders in business, unions and public administration so that their decisions are based on a practical understanding of the influence of their organizations on the general welfare of the community.
GGCLC began in 1983 but its roots go back to efforts to improve the quality of leadership nearly 50 years ago. The mission is to: improve decision-making abilities among young leaders likely to occupy high level positions in the near future; facilitate a more progressive era of interaction between leaders from business, labour, government and the broader community; and broaden their understanding of Canada.
Newly arrived commandant, BGen Sean Friday was delighted to host such a high profile group. “…The conference members requested hands-on exposure and the Cadets lead the group with parade drill using practice weapons, and all seemed to enjoy the experience.”
The Class of 1989 graduate concluded, “A tour of Academic spaces and presentations in Currie Hall completed the few short hours the group spent with RMCC, and the applause received once again illustrated how our Cadets are often our best ambassadors.”

Dr. Philip Bates (Photo left) – RMCC Vice-Principal Academic was recently recognized by The Engineering Institute of Canada for outstanding distinction and service to the engineering profession. The prestigious award presented by EIC President, Om Malik took place at the 2015 Awards Gala, 26 May in Montreal.
The Principal, Dr Harry Kowal on behalf of the entire RMCC community passes on congratulations to Dr. Bates.

Mention cake and you’re sure to draw a crowd. That was certainly the case last Thursday, 4 June when pretty well the vast majority of military and civilian staffs crowded into the Senior Staff Mess (SSM).
The College celebrated 139 years on the 01 June. BGen Friday & Acting Principal Dr Phil Bates cut a very special birthday cake at a Special Coffee break on Thursday morning.The huge cake was made with fitting decorations to mark the occasion by Chef, Alain from the Cadet Dining Hall.
Enthousiasme précurseur pour le 140e
J’ai quitté l’École de langues de la BFC St-Jean pour venir au Centre des langues du CMRC il y a 5 ans et, bien que j’étais familière avec la vie militaire en arrivant, j’ai vite compris qu’il y avait quelque chose de différent ici. Jeudi, j’ai eu un bel exemple de ce petit plus qui m’interpelle tant au Collège.
Le nouveau Commandant, le Brigadier-général Sean Friday, soulignait le 139e anniversaire du Collège. Je me suis rendue au mess sans avoir d’attentes particulières. On se dit qu’un café et du gâteau, ça reste un café avec du gâteau, sans plus…
Cependant, au mess, le gâteau du 139e trônait dans toute sa superbe, au milieu du salon, et invitait ostensiblement à la dégustation. Le Commandant, dans une allocution des plus senties, a brossé un tableau succinct de l’histoire du Collège et plus particulièrement, des raisons de sa fondation.
On avait l’impression de redécouvrir le Collège. Je me suis retrouvée à envier l’époque où quelques visionnaires ont contribué à construire ce pays, à lui donner une identité propre, en créant une institution qui allait former des ingénieurs et nos futurs chefs de file.
L’enthousiasme est un puissant véhicule et celui que le Commandant Friday dégageait, en évoquant l’histoire et en amenant des idées pour le 140e l’an prochain, était stimulant.
Je dois dire que cela m’a donné envie de m’impliquer, d’aller plus loin.
L’enthousiasme rend heureux; il donne des ailes.
